UK repackaged reissue of their 1977 debut album, includes new artwork with extensive sleeve notes and previously unseen photos. 12 tracks including three bonus tracks, 'Choosey Susie', 'Go Buddy Go', 'Peasant In The Big Shitty' (Live). The original album itself features such Stranglers classics as 'Hanging Around', 'Peaches' and '(Get A) Grip (On Yourself)'. If you've always wanted to know that The Doors would have sounded like if they were a Punk Rock band from the UK, then this is your answer! EMI.

I'd forgotten how good these guys are. Fantastic music and lyrics that make you cringe and laugh at the same time. Genius all around.

Gutter Expressionism
It's hard to say if this is a classic or not. Some will hate it and even those who love it can find a bit of fault. Despite the imperfections, this is still a great listen when you're in the mood for some impeccably played bile. The Stranglers may have actually been more punk than the media acknowleged punks. They were aging, lecherous working class pub rockers and owned that image to the hilt. Their sound is a melange of Doors, Seeds, Zappa and red light district sleaze.

Classic and it cuts the mustard
Along with the Sex Pistols this was the first album of my era that I ever bought. It was on tape of course and I was 13 I believe. Loved them them then, love them now. Great bass from J J Burnel and drums of Jet Black mixed with the distinctive keyboards of David and solid guitar from Hugh Cornwell and often provocative lyrics (in subject content at times I think that's fair to say) makes for great listening. The guys were older than most of the teen punks writing at that time and it shows, they could also all play. Their sound was and is instantly recognised as the Stranglers every time. Highlight tracks well there's lots but I personally love Nice and Sleazy, Get a Grip on Yourself and Peaches as my top 3. None are rubbish though and now I am 55 I still think they were one of the best bands at that time and remain a favourite listen. I think it's also my favourite album of their many. Well worth buying.

A great reissue campaign, but...
This is a review of the 2018 edition.Great sound. I didn't have any of these albums on CD, so the extra tracks are a great bonus. The CDs in this series come in a plastic jewel case, and of course 2 of the 7 Stranglers reissues in my order had cracked cases, and some of the clips inside broken off, so the discs slide around. Would have preferred mini LP replicas. They boast of a 32 page booklet, but it is a bit of a load. The lyrics for each album, and a few pictures, are the only unique content, per disc. The majority of the pages contain content that is the same across all 7 reissues. A history of the Stranglers and notes on each album. So don't expect 32 pages of unique content per disc. I love liner notes, so this was a bit of a let down.

Klassik!
The classic Stranglers line-up, Dave, Jet, JJ, Hugh....Bought this on vinyl when it came out. Still as good today as that first day.Not one weak track on there.Every Stranglers fan should have it in their collection.

Not as good as I remembered
It was ok . Most of this album was on the juke box in my local pub in my youth and it was hammered. Bought as a collection filler . I only played it once. Says it all really

Great music, great energy ... who said punks couldn't play?
Takes me back to the very uncomfortable middle of the back seat of my mate's 2CV on a trip to Scarborough in the late 70s.I'd almost forgotten the energy of the album, but it came back as soon as I started listening.
