Half Step better
This razor is awesome! I recently purchased a Dovo 5/8” half hollow as my first straight razor. It definitely didn’t come shave ready, so I bought a full series of naniwa honing stones, and I eventually got it into better shape. But, I decided to pick up a full hollow for comparison and got this shortly after. To be fair, i didn’t even try to shave with it straight out of the box. Instead I put it through the paces on my sharpening stones first (1k, 3k, 8k, 12k) and stropped it before use. The result was an amazing experience with a finely honed straight razor. It felt so much better than my half hollow I put through the same honing and resulted in a really nice shave. Obviously you’ll need to pay some attention to the edge on any razor you buy, and I’d doubt anything is truly shave ready out of the box. But, I’d recommend skipper the purchase of a half hollow, which some folks recommend for beginner, and just proceeding with a full hollow grind.

Great straight razor for people new to the straight shave
The Dovo Diamant is a great straight razor for people new to the straight shave, like me. I shaved right out of the box and the blade was shave ready. The blade is made of carbon steel and is painted black. I'm guessing, painted for anti-rust purposes. The paint covers most of all the blade with the exception of the edge and top corners. This provides the user with the sharp edge of the carbon steel blade with less worry about it rusting if not cared for perfectly. Areas like the edge that does not have the black paint will still require some special care (keep it dry).I was looking for a more traditional style straight razor but got tempted by the black blade of the Diamant. I was a little disappointed to find out the black was just paint. But was also somewhat relieved that the blade wont be as high maintenance as a pure carbon steel blade. I will most likely upgrade this blade, but hopefully not for a while.I wonder if Dovo has done any research on Japaneses knife making where carbon steel and stainless steel is sandwiched together to create a similar effect to the black paint. I use a Hiromoto Aogami Super knife in the kitchen that uses this very technique. Might be tougher since the straight blade is a lot smaller then the kitchen knifes. But I do feel if it could be accomplished, it would help keep that traditional look while providing the sharp carbon edge with less maintenance.

Excellent
Learning to properly maintain isn't hard. Make sure you checkout YouTube videos first so you don't mess up the edge.

tolles Geschenk
Ich habe meinem Freund dieses Rasiermesser geschenkt, weil es optisch viel hermacht. Es gefällt ihm sehr gut und schneidet einwandfrei. Sehr empfehlenswertes Produkt.

Not worth it.
This razor definitely was not "shave ready". In fact, it was just barely sharp enough to cut into the individual hairs, but not nearly sharp enough to cut through completely. It felt like I was trying to shave with a chainsaw. Furthermore, the handle looks nice in the pictures, but feels pretty cheap. It feels very light and roughly sanded. The only redeeming quality of this razor is the black color. It's not painted on. It's actually part of the razor itself. The way they forge the blades make the steel itself turn black, but only a very thin layer of it turns black. Honing and stropping it will eventually reveal the underlying non-blackened layer and the razor will return to the normal color of steel. I don't feel this razor was worth the price.
