How To Read Lacan

A short book. Well written. For the first time, I can see that there is perhaps more to psychoanalysis than the unconscious leading the conscious which given that it has been repeated many times in popular press and popular science always struck me as obvious and trivial.I work in tech. And one gem I got out the book is this: because human conversations are not only about information, but in daily life mostly about maintaining social bonds, the proliferation of chatbots will lead to normalization of sociopathic behavior, since chatbots obviously are not in the business of maintaining social bonds. (If they fake it, it's perhaps worse).This is not Zizek's statement, but an obvious consequence of his discussion of sociopathy and human to human conversation.There's much more to the book. A short, thought provoking and memorable read.

This is the book! The best book to easily understand various Lacanian psychoanalytical concepts. In the Introduction, Zizek defends Psychoanalysis fantastically, when he writes"For Lacan psychoanalysis at its most fundamental is not a theory and technique of treating psychic disturbances, but a theory and practice that confronts individuals with the most radical dimension of human existence. It does not show an individual the way to accommodate him- or herself to the demands of social reality; instead it explains how something like 'reality' constitutes itself in the first place. It does not merely enable a human being to accept the repressed truth about him- or herself; it explains how the dimension of truth emerges in human reality."! This book helps all SUBJECTS, not just in India, but also all SUBJECTS globally to get psychoanalysed! Successful psychoanalytical CURE / TREATMENT occurs when the SUBJECTS recognize their FICTIONAL status within REALITY (the Symbolic Order).

ラカンの入門書をすでにお読みになっている方に，その応用編としてお勧めします。ラカンは入門書でさえジャーゴンだらけで，取り付く島もないという感じでしたが，この本は映画や文学作品・実社会を例に出して，具体的にラカンを使ってみせている面白い本です。ジジェクらしいおしゃれな言い回しや多彩な話題は読者を選びますが，なかなか面白く読ませてくれる本でした。確実に視野は広がります。ただし内容としても英語としても，見た目ほどは簡単な本ではありませんので，少々覚悟が必要かもしれません。

Meine erste Zizek-Lektüre und Initiatorin aller weiteren. Für Einsteiger in Lacan und/oder Zizek absolut empfehlenswert, denn es deckt sowohl die Grundzüge der Welt des eines wie die der Welt des anderen ab und ist nie langweilig oder den Leser überfordernd.

Very clear, I didn't realize Zizek could be so focused and clear. Example are on point and accessible and really help you effortlessly understand how these ideas apply to real life. This would be a great book for anyone new to psychoanalytic theory, Lancan, or Zizek. I would particularly recommend it for people who want to read theory but are intimidated. Besides being easy to read, Zizek puts definitions and clarification in parentheses so that the reader never gets too lost. There is also a helpful timeline and suggested readings in the back.
