Golden Books Handbook of Ancient Greek and Roman Coins

Me gusto mucho el libro, muy bien ilistrado.Para alguien que inicia a coleccionar monedas antiguas es un libro muy útil.

There are many online resources out there such as wildwinds and forumancientcoins which are invaluable when researching coins, but theres must something intangible that makes books a wonderful learning resource as opposed to websites and this one is no exception. As a new collector of ancients this book has been a wonderful guiding influence in researching, identifying, and generally appreciating the coins that I have and those I plan to acquire.Pros:Nicely detailed images (and many of them).Short description of each coin gives more insight into historical significance.The maps of the ancient Mediterranean at the beginning are very useful in orienting where different coins actually come fom.Gives a nice description of some hellenic coinage, though this is very brief in comparison to the classical greek and the Roman coinage described.Cons:Images are in black and white, which can be a little disappointing at first, but internet resources are often in colour and can supplement this well.This is by no means an exhaustive list of all greek or roman coins, and as such you will need other resources if you wish to seriously collect either of these.

考えて見ると当たり前だが、古代ギリシア・ローマのコインの種類は膨大であり、この程度の値段の本に収まるはずがない。『日本貨幣型録』のギリシア・ローマ版のような辞書的な収録数の本を期待していたが、そういうわけではない。代表的なコインをさらりと取り上げたものであり、図鑑的な役割は全く果たさない。

この本は英文で古代ギリシャからローマのコインを紹介している。各王・各皇帝の代表的なものが数種類ずつ載っており、参照し易い。コインの制作過程の図、ネームの見方や意味の説明、裏面の神像の説明があり初心者向きだ。終りの方には、コインの発行年や名前の一覧表があり便利だ。ペーパーバックなので軽く持運びし易い。唯、写真の印刷はそれ程鮮明でない点もある。
