WOODRIVERDeluxe 4 Spur Drive Center with Spring Loaded Center Point #1MT- 5/8"

This spur is well-made. Good quality steel, and the tip and spring are good as well. But I DO have some complaints (for me, these were "difficulties"...for others, these might be "pluses"). The spring is SO tough, you REALLY have to hold down on the thing to rap with a mallet to get it to stick in your piece. Unless you completely sink this sucker into the wood, the spring-loaded tip will pop it out and shoot it across your shop (I am speaking from experience here). Additionally, it is a little too small for turning a piece over about 4 inches in diameter. The points on the spur a so sharp, that if you have ANY kind of catch, a semi-dull turning tool, or other tool that imparts some leverage against the turned piece, this spur will strip the wood. This is more my fault for only buying a 5/8" spur instead of a larger diameter one, but I thought I'd include my experience in the review. If you're turning pieces under 4 inches in diameter, and you make a center hole first (on the spur side), this would be rated at 4/5 stars. For me with larger pieces, green wood, and not wanting to take the time to drill / punch a hole first, it's 3 stars.

I received it in less than 5 days, so I did not have to wait for weeks! I tried it as soon as I received it. Works well.I had only one problem (minor), the screw who holds the point (spring loaded) was not tight enough, and after a couple of hours of use, the point ejected itself when I removed the piece of wood.I just re-insert the point, and drip a tiny drop of glue on the screw thread. Now, it is good.Ratio price/quality pretty: good.woody.

Works in my 1940’s Union Jubilee Lathe.

Cannot be beat for the price! Nice bite to it.
