A must have if you're running stock tire carrier and bigger than stock off road tire
Simple, but very effective and does what it is meant to do: saves your tailgate from the load and stress of heavy off road spare tire! Please ignore all reviews that are less than 5-stars, these people simply don't understand how to use the bump stops properly. I've been running these for the past 8 years, holding 90-100 lbs 35" tire on my stock '09 tire carrier. My tailgate is still solid, doesn't rattle, and I drive off road a lot anywhere between 60-100kmh...not exactly babying it.So here is how to use them:1) Take a utility knife and cut away flush those threaded nipples, then throw them in the garbage - they are not needed. We are not going to be installing them into the stock bump stop holes.2) Install your spare tire on the carrier, if not installed already. Do not install the bump stops first - they go on second. Try your best to have the bottom of your tire rest against the top of your bumper as this will offer an additional point of support.3) With the same utility knife cut away 1 section of the bump stop, so they fit between your tire and tailgate. If you have a typical 12.5" wide tire, then 1 section is what it takes. But measure first, as different wheels have different offsets.4) Now slide/squeeze these bump stops between the spare tire and tailgate, roughly centering them on the back of the tire. This is why we don't use the stock bump stop holes, as they would never be centered on the back of the tire. Plus it will be extremely hard to put on the tire AFTER the bump stops are installed. So always install tire first. When you take off your spare tire, most likely than not the bump stops will be stuck to the back of tailgate and won't fall down to the ground. Please remember to take them down, or else you'll lose them if you go for a ride like that.

Explanation for mixed reviews
If you are looking at this product, you may be wondering about the mixed reviews, wondering why some people who absolutely hate this item, whereas others absolutely love it. Why the mixed reviews you say? its almost as if they received two different products.. or should I say, different revisions?I so happened to place two orders of this product (Daystar KJ09144BK Bump Stop), and have received two boxes. Upon opening the first box, I was very impressed with the build quality. However, I was even more amazed when I opened the second box and found the exact same product, but with a complete different unexpected quality! Here's a comparison in between:First box content* Item: Daystar KJ09144BK Bump Stop- Very stiff polyurethane (hard rubber like characteristics).- Difficult to compress with hands.- Difficult to bend.- Fair weight to it which gives it a good quality feel.- Has a fairly large diameter stud that will fit snug through the tailgate hole.- Embossed 'Daystar' logo.Second box content:* Item: Daystar KJ09144BK Bump Stop- Material is like highly compressed foam, very similar to what Nerf toy swords are made of.- Easy to compress the whole thing with one had.- Has a slimmer/smaller diameter stud, which explains the complaints of it falling off of the tailgate.- Engraved 'Daystar' logo.Exact same product, same design, same size, same shape, same model, same color. Though, different material, different characteristics and different sized studs, as well as different logo stamp (engraved vs. embossed). This tells me Daystar has different revisions of this product, but they are all packaged in a box carrying same model number of 'KJ09144BK'.As far as Amazon is concerned, the Model number is the same as the order states, so they are shipping the correct item. It just so happens that you may receive one revision than the other. To the reviewers who where unfortunate to get the undesired revision, I can understand your frustration; I've seen the revision you received and would like to let you know that there is in fact a much better revision of the same product. For the price, I would say try your luck again and order another one :-) worst things worst, if you get the wrong one again, thanks to Amazon's great return policy you can return it.Hope this helps!Cheers,SpaceNinja

Made for a JK, but I used them on aJL
I bought these knowing full well they wouldn’t fit on my wife’s JL rubicon, but I needed something I could use as a wedge on her Rusty’s tailgate reinforcement setup. It rattled because of how far away the tire was from the body. I cut these to fit the space between the carrier and the tire and did a good job (not great…) of bridging the gap. Definitely better than nothing!

Se ajustaron muy bien.
La espuma es firme. Solo corte una sección y puse la llanta con algo de esfuerzo pues comprimen con mucha fuerza. Me gusto como quedo. Espero que con el tiempo no se dañen.
