.com San Francisco has one of the most diverse and creative music scenes anywhere, and Bay Area percussionist Pete Escovedo tours the city's musical neighborhoods and mixes it up with his brand of Latin jazz on E Music. There's the funk of trumpeter Ray Vega's smoking "Miles Away"; the unmistakable smooth-jazz sound of guitarist Ray Obiedo on his "La Samba"; and San Francisco favorite son George Duke's look at "Setembro," a tune made immensely popular by Quincy Jones and Take Six. Escovedo even takes a turn at gospel singing on "Praise and Worship." The disc opens with a hot showcase for the band featured throughout E Music, continues with well-sequenced, entertaining Latin jazz, and closes with a smoking drum piece. Showing the same broadly attractive qualities of Escovedo's many commercial successes, E Music also burns with a hotter jazz passion, much to the CD's benefit. --Mark Ruffin

Viva Latino
Oh man this dude and his cast of terrific musicians make this CD a real pleasure to add to any collection if you have any compunction for latin, rthymic music. These boys are awesome and it is little wonder that this stable has produced none other than Sheila E, although she may not even be as good as some of these other dudes including Pops.Hay, no criticism there, I like it all and what a talented bunch.Get this you will be glad you did.

"E Music is Pete Escovedo"
Pete Escovedo has been a major force in Latin music since the late '60s, with his versatility in every aspect of music, from Latin jazz, salsa, rock and Latin pop. Escovedo has been surrounded by music since his childhood growing up in Oakland, known to friends and fans as "Mr. E" - puts his contemporary spin on a new recording of mambo, guajira, cha cha and even a little samba. He started using his daughter, Sheila E in the mid '70s when she was still a teenager, they first recorded in 1976 and have worked together many times since then.Concord Records (picante) - presents Mr. E's signature of smooth-yet-hot blend of contemporary jazz and Latin music, so uniquely Escovedo, it can only be described as "E Music". Let's not forget special guests - Sheila E (vocals-drums-percussion), George Duke (piano), Ray Obiedo (guitar), and Ray Vega (trumpet) really stoke up the fire, helping Pete bring his most potent brew of jazz and Latin music to a full boil. This album has everything you could want in Latin, Jazz or just good music for your listening pleasure - "E Music" i-i-i-i-is Pete Escovedo!Total Time: 50:01 on 10 Tracks/ Concord Picante - CCD 4892 2 (2000)
