A must have for the toolbox
I never really had much of a need or want for soemtilike this until I started putting together a small workspace and found that the fence on my tablesaw didn't always lock into position evenly front to back and it only had a tape measure on the front side. I needed to find a way to put a second tape measure across the rear of the table so that I would be able to see and be sure the fence was the same on both sides. Simply measuring from one side or the blade etc... didn't leave me feeling confident that when I put the tape down it would be accurate. I needed to measure it from at least 2 spots at the same time and that's when I found the 1,2,3 blocks. I simply put one toward the front of the blade and the other on the back the blade and brought the fence up against them and locked it down. It measured an almost perfect 3" by the front tape so I marked it and put the second tape on the rear of the table. Now I am confident that so long as both the front and rear of the fence are on the same number that it is level. I don't think without these blocks I would have had that confidence.I don't have any high-speed tool makers measuring devices but like most tools I'm sure these are good enough for the hobbyist to be confident in the measurements. As well for the price, compared to what I saw many others going for, these were a bargain.

Good block for 15 bucks.
the two blocks i received pretty much measured identical. they were measured at the ends andmiddle of each side. the 1" sides measured .9997 to .9998 end to end. the 2" and 3" sides were deadon across the entire side.the finish is a different story. the chamfered edges are poor at best with rough file or grinding marks, thecorners have a deeper chamfer than the mid point looking like it was filed or ground by hand in a hurry.the hole chamfers and margins have casting voids and are rough. the surfaces have many scuffs and scratches.i don't have the equipment to measure hardness so i can't speak to that. for the price i cant see these blocksbeing made out of any form of tool steel. recovered cast iron of some form maybe? a file on one of the edgesbites easily into both blocks so they are soft anecdotally.i'm a hobbyist and for what i do these blocks are a bargain at 16 bucks. all the issues i see are just cosmetic. maybespending some project time cleaning them up could make these little gems look and work out just fine for a fraction of the cost of even the value collection blocks from msc.

Awesome!!
I love these!! I do woodworking for a hobby and these are great for exact measurements and marking holes that I want drilled. They are one of those tools that make you say "I'd never use those" and then next you know your using them all the time for odd jobs. I will admit though, I bought these more out of curiosity than anything, and man am I glad I did. Just so you know, as many other have mentioned, these have machine oil on them. Do not wash it off. The best thing to do is wipe them down with toilet paper to get off the excess oil. Then every now and then it's best to wipe them down with a rag or cloth that has machine oil on it to protect them. Then if you think theres too much on them, just wipe them down with toilet paper again. I know.... "toilet paper" sounds weird, but it absorbs the oil nicely and you don't have to sit there and keep wiping them. Great tool to have around any shop, seriously!

Infinite uses, zero come to mind
Honestly, 1-2-3 blocks are a gem! I'm no machinist, but I find uses for these all the time. Super-hardened steel so I imagine they'll last forever. They have 3/8" tapped threads on some of the holes, so you can basically screw them together to make clamps, perfect 90 degree "L"s and so on. Use them in pictures you take to get a sense of scale, because of course they're exactly 1" x 2" x 3". Also, they weigh exactly 1 pound. Note that there is a small bevel on all the edges, so the measurement is taken from the face and not the edge. Don't expect to use it as a ruler. Do expect to use it as a weight, a square, a stop-block, a tiny table, clamp, bench dog, and so much more. Also, I'd suggest buying a couple sets, it's nice to have 4 (or 6)

Accurate to better than 0.0001"
My 0.0000" digital caliper read spot on: 1.0000", 2.0000" and 3.0000" on each corresponding side for both. Came smothered in protective oil to prevent storage and transport rust. Time will tell if it will rust if not immersed in oil. There are other cheaper ones and I am sure they all come from the same supplier/manufacturer.
