Useful
I started using this book when I started my postgrad training in surgery. It has been very useful throughout- gives much background information without being tedious. It is generally an easy read- lots of tables to simplify information and has much practical information.

Great for aspiring surgeons
I had heard that this book was a must read for all aspiring surgeons, so far, I've not been disappointed. This text details the most recent practices, but also provides a historical perspective, which gives the reader insight into how and why we've developed the current protocols. The book is LONG and very bulky, is often wordy, and probably contains some extraneous material. There is built-in redundancy which, for me, emphasizes the importance of some of the info.I highly recommend this for medical students and residents.

I love Sabiston's textbook of Surgery.
This is the Bible of Surgery. I love the manner the topics were discussed. The pathophysiologic basis of surgical diseases was well elucidated. The book was also amazingly cheap.

19th Edition Extremely disappointing...DO NOT BUY!
I am the owner of a 17th edition...excellent book in its time when i was a medical student rotating in surgery. The 18th came out....but i had the computerized version so i upgraded naturally. I eventually decided I was fed up reading it on a screen so i pre-ordered this 19th edition since nov/dec 2011 hoping it would be better than the 18th. Eager to open the box like a child on christmas day, I started reading it. As a surgical resident, this book is not a step down but a probably ten floors down from what it should be.Comparing the 17th and 18th to this 19th edition: alot of vital and critical information has been omitted. In fact if you read this you are likely to not to benefit much in terms of new knowledge. If this is your first sabiston then you may be like wow buy if you know what the potential of this book was previously....you may probably fling the 19th edition out the window. In my opinion this is a GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT for me and a waste of USD $160.49. I can even sell it cause its underpar and no other surgical resident will want it. I regret not buying the 18th edition instead. If you are a medical student and want a brief overview....good book for you.If you want to be a surgeon, poor book, they have skipped over alot of pathophysiology, surgical anatomy, anomalies, etc....its a long list. This book is just a disaster.anyway the choice is yours and you were informed.

Books arrived safely, though pages were folded over (pet-peeve of mine.) Aside from that, thanks!
