You Are Not Small
G**T
Helping Kids Size Themselves Up
To a child, size matters. Much emphasis is placed on being “big.” How often have you heard a child boast, “I not a baby! I a big girl (or boy)!” Children love to place their hands and feet beside a parent’s limbs and assert that they are almost as big as Mom or Dad. What I love about You Are (Not)Small by Anna Kang is that it taps into this touch point of childhood. With delightful illustrations by Christopher Weyant, it deftly and humorously, highlights that size is relative. The story follows a conversation between an ostensibly small character with a visibly larger one. The tiny one resists the label that the large character applies to him. The little one responds by turning the statement around: “I am not small. You are big.”Which is true? Like so much in life, neither is absolutely true; each is relatively true. Compared to one creature, the main character is tiny. But, compared with a different one, he is huge. Thus, both statements are true. He is both little and big! This is an important lesson for children to learn: comparisons depend on the metric being used. Like statistics, they can tell a different story depending on what is emphasized and what is ignored. They do not change; only the measuring scale differs. Labels can hide as much as they highlight and divide as much as unite. This story can be used to help children see how comparisons can lead to feelings about themselves that are based on illusion. Parents can discuss what things about a child are consistently true. The story opens conversation about bullying as well. As a writer who focuses on adoption issues, I know adopted children are often told that their families or parents are not real. This book provides an easy way to address that question. Just as the characters are both big and small, families can be both adopted and real, just like birth families! Enjoy this book for its story, sense of humor and colorful illustrations. This is a book children will want to read again and again. Gayle H. Swift, "ABC, Adoption & Me: A Multicultural Picture Book"

Everything is relative.
This book is charming and sweet. It lets us look at things from different perspectives. There will always be someone bigger than you, and smaller than you. As long as we all get along, it should be fine. Good message for children and adults.

Cute Book for Teaching Kids Acceptance
I don't think my 16-month-old is quite ready for books on the e-reader, but I think this will be a favorite when he is. It's very cute and engaging with great illustrations. Best of all, it's short. -Great for a bedtime read. I think it holds good lessons about perspective and acceptance of diversity. I'm bigger than some people and smaller than others, but that's O.K. It's not some earth shattering classic like Goodnight Moon or The Night You Were Born, but good nonetheless.

Children will surely relate to this playground spat about one another's size . . .
Lesson: There's always someone smaller as well as someone bigger than each of us. Beautifully displayed on Kindle 10.1. I love the layout of the illustrations. Three versus four stars because requests for repeat readings not as high as for other books read in this category. Nevertheless, a very good book that is worth purchasing.

You are small...and big! =)
I read this to my crew (I am nanny to six children), ages twenty months to ten years. Of course, this little book is really most suitable for the younger ones, but even the older kids were laughing when the big bear feet appeared--BOOM--with the tiny parachuting bears in tow. =DThe older kids now enjoy reading this book to the younger ones, which is always a lovely sight to see. =)The book is a precious, adorable little gem that will help little ones to look at others without applying labels to them.A terrific little book to broaden a child's perspective about people's differences.I borrowed it, then bought it. =) I wish I could give it more than five stars!! *****

Unique concept
I love the unique concept this book portrays; the idea that size is relative. Opening up a child's mind to this concept also opens them up to the possibility that time is relative etc. It received the, Theodore Seuss Geisel Award which is an award given annually to the author(s) and illustrator(s) of the most distinguished American book for beginning readers published in English in the United States during the preceding year. I absolutely think they deserve this award and now I keep a look-out for which books have won or win the award as a good indication of a book that I would like to purchase. The illustrations are also quite nice and very friendly.

Livro lindo, bem acabado. Grande.
The media could not be loaded. Me surpreendi. Muito bom

Wunderbares Kinderbuch

Love this series!
My 5 year-old twin daughters and I adore reading these books . The stories are engaging for young children; we end up having conversations about the illustrations and delving into the themes of the books.
