I am an amateur cook and really can't determine if something is done by looking at it. I have ruined quite a few dishes (mostly chicken and pork) by overcooking. This thermometer takes the mystery out. It is simple to use and seems to be perfectly accurate. I used to have a cheap metal food thermometer . It was nice because I could leave it in the over for a few minutes, but it never seemed accurate. This thermometer can't be left in the over (because of the plastic) but it is much more accurate.

Great product for barbecue and oven! I have been over cooking meat as I always worry about possible parasites or bacteria contamination, but this comes at the cost of the taste and flavor. With this food thermometer, I finally am able to take the guess work out of meat cooking. Just tried these on cooking steak, and some information I found turned out to be useful. For temperature at the center of the thickest part, 145F will give you medium rare, while 160F for medium and 170F for well done. The thermometer is quite accurate too with a reading range of -58F to 572F, well beyond any temperature we might encounter in the kitchen. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who wants to cook great food!
