Highly practical and valuable guide - Strongly recommend
One to One Bible Reading, A Simple Guide for Every Christianby David Helm (Kingsford, Australia: Mathias Media, 2011), 103 pp., paper $12.99The stated goal for this short manual on Bible reading is as follows:Reading one-to-one is a variation on the most central Christian activity—reading the Bible—but done in the context of reading with someone. It is something a Christian does with another person, on a regular basis, for a mutual agreed upon length of time, with the intention of reading through and discussing a book or part of a book of the Bible (p. 11).The author describes a typical meeting (pp. 27-32) and how it would function with and/or without prior preparation (pp. 33-35). Two simple methods of Bible reading are outlined: The Swedish method, in which highlights, questions, and applications are observed, and the COMO method, comprised of context, observation, meaning, and application (pp. 43-48). Suggestions for reading various portions of Scripture with non-Christians (pp. 50-52), new Christians (pp. 52-53), and established Christians (pp. 53-56) are given. Helps with reading various biblical genres, such as the Gospels, Old Testament narrative, and the epistles, are provided (pp. 57-69). In addition, Appendix 2 consists of handy worksheets to aid in the studies of the various genres (pp. 83-95). An eight-week guide designed for non-Christians, but useful for Christians as well, is found in chapter eight (pp. 71-75), along with easy-to-photocopy worksheets (pp. 96-103). All of the worksheets are also downloadable at the Mathias Media website. One to One is a highly practical and valuable guide to aid in the reading of the Bible with another person. Strongly recommended.Reviewed by Gary E. Gilley, Southern View Chapel

Inspirational
This book encouraged me to evangelize. Evangelism doesn’t have to be complicated . It’s actually quite simple . One of the easiest ways is to read the Bible with someone . This book give tips and advice as well as reading to lead you along . Great book if you are struggling with evangelism .

Why didn't I think of that?
Very clear layout with great examples. I like the structure of the one-to-one reading, it provides a clear goal to keep the 'study' within the set guidelines. My wife and I are using this for our weekly reading now. We've found we make more observations about the text, have better discussions, and gain a better 'big picture' understanding of the text. My only complaint, the links to the PDFs in the book are dead links (hence my dinging the book a star). I haven't tried to contact the website yet to see if there is a good link for the additional information.

Great beginning guide
Very simple and straightforward. Very actionable guidance. Does not take long to read. Wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who feels Bible reading is part of the heart of the life of a Christian and the church.

Open the Bible. Read it. Discuss it.
Non believers, new believers, established believers. Everyone needs the Word. I wish this book was handed to me when I just came to faith years ago. Many programs attended or hosted, even great books discussed, but not enough Bible being opened. The scales should be outweighed in the Word. Hens whose heart is for expository preaching, blesses and equips every Christian with what he teaches in this short book packed with gold.Your life can be used mightily by God as you help others seek his face through his Word. The 2 or few of you will be grateful each time if it leads you closer to Jesus and the kingdom of God. This book is a mighty tool in this endeavor.Invite people to get together to read the Bible. 1 on 1 works great or a small group. Asking someone to read the Bible together is 61% yes among young professionals, 42% yes among older generations.Invite the unchurched and the overchurched. This simplifies it and bolsters confidence that if you love Jesus you can read the Bible together and help each other grow. Two methods mentioned and some books to study. We have to study not just read over God’s word.Get after it.All of grace,Stone

I just finished this short book, and I'm hoping to hand it off to someone in my church who can make use of it. It's the type of book that's better for our church if it's passed from person to person than if I just store it in my bookcase :-). The book is a very simple, straightforward, practical guide on how to read through a section of the Bible with a friend (either a non-Christian friend you hope to see saved, a young Christian friend you're trying to disciple, or an established Christian with whom you want to enjoy some spiritual fellowship). It's a fast read (took me less than an hour in two sittings), but it'll help get you going if this is something you've been wanting to do.

Great Resource
Wonderful tool to help pastors, leaders and laypeople in the church begin reading God’s Word with another person. Although what Helms writes in this this short work is nothing new, he writes in such a way that encourages and makes the task of reading the Bible less daunting. Highly recommended for anyone who is thinking about reading the Bible with some else but does not know where or how to start.

Great Read Great Ideas
I like how this book shows different scripture passages to use for people and the level for which they may be at this particular time in the faith journey. How doing a one to one bible study people can feel more at ease to share than in a full group bible study.
