Magnificent spellbinding heartfelt writing
This book was both a joy and a terror to read the two threads moving along together. The relationship between the sisters during the dreadful acts of war were wonderfully written . You could feel the characters and the tension that encroached into their lives. The tensions and shocks of some of the acts of war were terrifying, yet the relationships the sisters had was a deep and caring one .I could imagine the French countryside the château and river where the girls would swim .A great read .

Another good read
I really enjoyed this book, has a bit of everything, sadness happy and resilience. Thought provoking. Still enjoy Dinah Jeffries books set in Malaysia better

A really good story
I liked all the characters, the genuine tension and the storylines. Thoroughly enjoyable read. I started reading it because it was marked Book 1 and I love reading a series of books. It turns out that Book 1 is the only book in the series. Disappointed. Still. Should have done my research. My bad.,

If you love France, you will enjoy this book
Wonderful to read about the villages in the Dordogne I knew so well. I have heard many stories from old French people about their experiences during the time the Nazis were in the region and it was obviously a very unpleasant, dangerous period. Really look forward to the second book in this series becoming available next year. Having now read and thoroughly enjoyed all Dinah Jefferies books, I think her first “The Separation” is still the most gripping and well written.
