I gave myself an hour every morning to read this from start to finish, then go again at the most relevant sections for me. TJ has a wealth of knowledge ( as you'd expect from someone so highly qualified), and breaks each topic down in a way that makes sometimes complex information easy to digest and relate to. All the information is backed by the best independent research. Some good recipes at the back too. Would highly recommend

The perfect book for anyone wanting to boost their performance on a plant-based diet
This book is exactly what I needed. My son has been a keen distance runner for years and he has the lithe body that goes with that sport, but he would like a more defined look and has started going to the gym regularly and working with a personal trainer. As soon as he told the trainer he was a vegan, he told him he would need to add protein powder to everything he eats in order to get enough to build muscle. I hated the idea of adding protein powder to everything because even the blandest powder available still changes the flavour and/or texture/thickness of dishes and it is also expensive. Thankfully, I haven't needed to go down that route. TJ's book shows that it is easy to get more than enough protein from plants and the recipes are easy to adapt to use what ever fruit and vegetables are available. TJ explains the science behind everything and is measured and sensible in his approach. Using the book I have been able to show my son how he can boost his protein intake without resorting to powders and the results are beginning to show; he is definitely developing more definition. He has also discovered that by running less and working out more his running speed has improved. His weekly long-distance run is completed quicker than it used to be, so he is absolutely thrilled. Thank you TJ for this wonderful book. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone interested in how to get the most out of a vegan diet.

SUCH great value! Evidence based, bias free, beautifully written & highly informative read
This book is the perfect recipe for a science based nutrition read! Whilst it’s rooted in the latest scientific evidence and will meet you at the needs of all the training buffs, science geeks and nutrionists (which I am), it’s also a really accessible and beautifully written book which will provide helpful and practical solutions for anyone! For instance, the “customising a meal plan” chapter - the info here is hugely helpful, let alone the amazing “recipe” section which again provides immense value! As someone who trains a fair amount myself, I will be drawing upon the recovery and performance section in particular. I’d like to note that although I am not exclusively plant based, this is a resource that I will undoubtedly draw upon repeatedly - for implementing effective nutrition and lifestyle strategies! This is a must read for anyone who cares about their training performance, health or nutrition and couldn’t be better value for money! I’ve read a lot of nutrition books and this beats the majority - if you’re after real science and strategies that you can practically implement easily. Also this is great research on what can be done on a plant based diet when you understand the science and take the time to plan and use whole food and cook!
