Exceeded Expectations
As a lifetime martial artist, instructor, and weapons enthusiast/collector, I can say this spear has my approval. I admit, I was skeptical. My initial impression was that it was slightly shorter than what I’m used to, but this ends up being a good thing, as one handed thrusting is not as awkward as with a longer spear. With two hands, it is agile enough. The spearhead is thick, solid, and came reasonably sharp. Screwing together the two piece shaft, I noticed mine is ever so slightly warped due to the bolt not being perfectly true. It is however, tolerable; the shaft has the perfect amount of springiness that I don’t notice it when in use. As you assemble it, make sure to use the metal connector piece and screw it together tightly; that is critical to shaft integrity. After 40 plus hours of drills, basics, kata, and repetitive stabbing of a tire makiwara, it’s no worse for the wear. Even though this is a throwing spear, I have not yet thrown it, but I don’t doubt it’s durability. I saw one person on YouTube bend the tip of one by throwing poorly and it didn’t stick right. Nothing’s indestructible but this comes pretty close as long as your technique is not faulty. I have many swords, and not cheap ones, but in an instance of zombie apocalypse, this is what I’d reach for first.

Great for swinging and thrusting; bad for throwing.
Awesome, but not great for throwing, and the shaft has a permanent bend to it straight out of the box. The head is super durable, though, and keeps a deadly edge!

Well made, hard steel blade, easy to resharpen as needed.
Well made spear. I have really abused mine testing the strength of the spearhead and how long it would keep an edge after being thrown directly into a fallen tree. I now throw it into a foam or straw target to keep the blade sharper longer. More importantly the blade didn’t warp, chip or break. All I had to do was sharpen the edge again after about a month of throwing into wood. Since switching to straw and foam targets I only have to sharpen the blade every couple of months. Handle is a hardy plastic material with a metal piece handle that encases where you screw the two halves of the spear together. My only criticism would be the weight distribution, slightly too top heavy. However right out of the box I was accurate within 10 ft in under an hour of practice.

this thing is no joke
the only thing i can honestly say thats not perfect with this tool is the weight is way off for proper throwing. thats not to say you cannot compensate on the shaft to get it off but its also very heavy. this thing is so sturdy and sharp it could honestly be used to fend off a wild animal. great add to any weapon collection. i drove it through an old king size mattress like a knife through butter.

Excellent Piece of Gear
This spear is just what I expected. It's lite-weight and sturdy and is an excellent thrusting weapon that gives you a superior range advantage over most other melee weapons. The M-48 Super Spear is now my melee weapon of choice and I think it gives me a big edge against swords and clubs.

Perfect, except for and follow up review
I have mixed feelings in respect to the Magnum spear. Mine arrived today and I immediately assembled it. But after a few minutes of killing imaginary Orc's, I noticed something wrong with it. It's warped, and I don't mean just a little bit. If I placed it on a level table and rolled it, it wobbled all over the place. To confirm what my aging eyes were seeing, I placed a laser level on it by lining up the three screws that hold the blade to the shaft. By doing so I was hoping that the far end of the laser would show up on the far end of the shaft. Unfortunately it didn't even touch the end of the shaft opposite the blade (see photo) For the hell of it I unscrewed it and then put it back together. The results were always the same (warped). Now I know you can bend wood shafts, but this is a composite nylon/fiberglass shaft. At this point I'm not sure if I want to replace it or just return it for a refund. If it wasn't for this one issue, I would have given this product five out of five stars. The length is perfect for me. The weight and balance is also perfect. The blade size and shape is once again perfect for me. The shaft material and color works for me as well. But being warped killed it for me.Follow Up: Against my better judgment, I returned my spear for a replacement. The return process thru Amazon was as simple as filling out a form online, printing out a label, taping it to the box and dropping it off at UPS. A week later my replacement arrived. Unfortunately it has the same issue as the first spear in that it’s not straight (see photo #2) Like I said above I’m satisfied with this product in every respect except for the fact that it’s not straight. Looking at other reviews I see no one else has had this problem. Maybe I received two off center spears in a row, although I doubt it. Still I’ve decided to go ahead and keep it as is. I just wish there was better quality control.
