Defective workmanship
On first day of use the defect was found. Rivet on tilt over hinge was not tightly compressed. This allowed the loose rivet to move out of position and block tilt over hinge from returning to the vertical position. Too much of a trouble to return at my cost such a large item in the original damaged corrugated box. I guess I will begrudgingly accept the defect and eat the cost. This umbrella was 50% more expensive than most others, so I expected a superior product with no immediate issues and a long life, but got this problem.

Strong, attractive, operates very smoothly! Love it!
Everything about this umbrella I love. It is strong, attractive, easily tilted and easy to put together. You won't regret this purchase. I do not LEAVE it opened. I always close it because I feel even the best umbrella can't take too much wind. We can get up to 70 mph winds here so I just don't take the chance. I've received many many compliments on it.UPDATE: August 19, 2018. This umbrella still amazes me. I've forgotten to close it a number of times, twice the wind picked it up tossing it almost into the neighbor's yard. Unbelievably, there was no damage done to this umbrella! I expected it to be broken each time as other umbrellas have but nope it it almost 2 1/2 years old and standing strong. Some fading of course but it still looks good!!June 19, 2020 Now 4 years old and this umbrella is still going strong. It has definitely faded but I never take it inside during the winter months. I'm back on Amazon today to purchase another so I sure hope all colors are as sturdy as this one has been.

Poor Quality fabric
We purchased the 9' Collar Tilt umbrella with olifin fabric canopy in July, 2019. Frame and tilt function work well. However, when we went to use it this third year, the fabric is shredding and pulling apart in five different places. We don't use it that often during the summer months and it's stored indorrs during the winter. Fabric just doesn't stand up to the elements. Called California Umbrella. They have no patches but will sell me a new canopy for more than the cost of a new umbrella!

Great for the cost
I am not certain you could ask for any more than this outdoor umbrella provides, considering the very low cost. I have used many times since purchasing and everything has worked flawlessly. I inserted it over a steel pipe I put in ground about three feet deep. It is not moveable as I have it set up, but I exclusively use it where it is. The tilt feature works very smoothly, as does the raising and lowering. I am able to tilt as the sun moves, thus providing plenty of shade for two people with a small table in between the chairs. I have it right behind the table so it is not in the way. If I had it on a very heavy mounted base I could move it to provide even more shade, but it would have to be very heavy to keep it from tipping over when fully tilted. I do not have that problem as I have it set up. As to longevity concerning the plastic parts (tilt adjustability and pully system) time will tell. I am very happy with the performance of this umbrella and the quality, thus far, considering it was one of the lowest-priced with the features I wanted. I do intend to store it inside for the bad weather months experienced in Ohio, and fully, at this time, expect it to last far longer than many others around the same cost.

Missing lower part of the umbrella pole
Umbrellas like this typically get installed in a table. To facilitate installation the umbrella pole is in two pieces that fit together. The lower pole part can be placed in the receiver socket of the table then the upper pole part - with the crank, slides, ribs and umbrella elements - slides into the lower part. That lower tubing section was omitted from my umbrella package.

We'd buy another
This is our third California Umbrella. Two are on the deck and one got caught open in a 50 mph wind while we were away that survived except for the lower pole that bent... I couldn't find a replacement pole or it would still be up. The collar tilt is the ticket for infinite choices on how far to tilt it

Great customer service
I bought two of these umbrellas in 2013. They have lived outside on my patio, uncovered, less than a mile from the beach. They FINALLY tore in a windstorm this winter (2020... I emailed the company directly (California Umbrella) about replacing the canopies. They emailed back within the hour and I have two new canopies coming for about $100 shipped. Great customer service for a great product.

Replaced an original California Umbrella
The cover is not waterproof and the weight of the umbrella metal is about half the weight of the original item being replaced.

It is a good umbrella haven't figured out how to make it tip ...
It is a good umbrella haven't figured out how to make it tip yet plus it does not have a tie to keep it closed if windy..
