lots of ignition material in a small package
Works great. You can unwind and cut the strands and use a very little jute at a time and keep a few small pieces handy to use with your spark tool (flint & steel, ferro rod and striker, matches/lighter, e.g.). Rough up a small strand with a knife or stone and make it like-lint and it will catch a spark and burn long enough for you to get your tinder bundle lit. There might be cheaper options for ignition material but this was an ok price to me and I expect the jute to last for a while. It is more convenient than char cloth as well in that it is not fragile and doesn't flake.

Works like a charm!
The waxed jute cord works very easily, and literally anyone can do it. Each cord, can light dozens and dozens of fires if you have everything prepped. No, it is not for lighting a LOG on fire. This is why we create tinder bundles around this cordage. The cordage should be considered for emergencies, which means the more of it that you use is the less you have for the next fire. Prep a tinder bundle and place the jute cord within it. Then once it is all lit. Add bigger twigs, and then sticks. I only say it this way because there are people on this site who do not understand the Mechanics of building a fire.

Good product
Very easy to pack and transport. Since it's several cords twisted into one rope, you can take only what you might need, plus extra.Lights pretty easy, doesn't burn too fast, easy to handle.Five stars.

Doesn't work as well as I hoped
This is the first "stick" style fire starter I've used before, though I've used other types of starters before. It can be a bit tedious to break down into pieces thin enough to burn well. Even then, while it really ignites, don't expect it to light a log (even a very dry one) without plenty of kindling. It just doesn't burn hot enough. It's nice that this is waterproof, but otherwise I get better results making my own fire starters from cotton balls and Vaseline, or from dryer lint, egg carton and cooking oil.
