The charge base *does* work, you just need to know how!
There were a lot of reviews saying that the charge stand itself doesn't work, and while I experienced a lot of the same problems described by others, they all seemed to have given up on it entirely. Yes, the battery works, holds about double the charge, and doesn't feel too bad to hold. It also adds quite a bit of weight to the system. This review will focus on the charge base so many people seem to have issues with, and hopefully make your decision to purchase this a bit more informed. When I got the thing, after charging it with the direct AC adapter, I tested out the cradle seeing as so many people claim theirs doesn't work. When I set my 3DS in there and the orange 'charge' light on the 3DS didn't come on, I assumed mine was broken too. I scoured the googles for information on a possible fix, and the only interesting thing I found was that one person had contacted Nyko, who told him that it was acting normally. The light's not supposed to come on. I was about to contact Nyko myself, but then thought I'd test it out and see if I can get it working first. I ran a game (with the 3D all the way up) and left the wireless on at full brightness overnight to kill the new power pack. Once it was dead, I set it in the cradle, and saw that the orange light on the 3ds did not come on. I left it in there (with the cradle's power button turned on) and turned the 3DS on, but it promptly died. So, to test it out, I left it in the cradle (dead) while I was at work. When I came home, the power pack had completely charged. The cradle's light was still orange until i turned the cradle off and on again, and then it turned green, to indicate that it was fully charged. As it turns out, the stand has a circuit board inside it that regulates power to the power pack, and since it's a high capacity battery, the charging light on the 3DS won't come on, but as long as the cradle's power is on, it WILL charge. Though it is rather slow. It charges independently from the 3DS.So, if you buy this kit, just keep in mind that it DOES work, even if the light on the 3DS doesn't come on. Just follow the directions in the kit on using it for the first time, and remember what I've said. If you still think yours is broken, I suggest you do a test like I did: Drain the battery, set it in the cradle, turn the cradle on, and check it in several hours. They're not defective, and I rather like using the cradle (and the one that came with the 3DS), so to me, it was worth the extra $10 over the individual power pack. Oh, and just a little note, I haven't tested this, but I'm fairly sure the power pack won't charge unless the cradle's power is turned on.

Battery Extension? Awesomeness!
I got the Nyko Charge Base for the 3DS because I was tired of repetitively charging my 3DS when all I wanted to do is play Legend of Zelda: Oot, Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance and many others. I'll be splitting my review into four categories of what you get, look, weight, battery life quality, price, and why you should or shouldn't get it.What you get: To be simple, you get a box and inside the box there is a charging station, mini-screw driver, and extra screws if you lose them, battery pack and multiple instructions. The instructions come in different languages and they are pretty straight forward on what you have to do. Just need to read it briefly to get your standard battery off of your 3DS and get the extended battery pack on.Pro:+The Company really sent the instructions and multiple items to make it stupid-proof.Con:-If you don't properly read the directions (like I did) you will end up have to go back unscrew the pack and put it back on properly. (I guess I was one of the few they miscalculated for intelligence.)Score: A (Very helpful instructions and almost full proof if you read unlike me who first skipped the instructions.)Look: The battery pack on the 3DS is a black rubber back and gives a nice grip for users. The charging dock is sleek black with a light up power button (blue color) and two lights on the side (Red for charging and Green when the 3DS is charged.) It uses the same cord as the old dock you would get with the system.Pro:+I actually like the charging base a lot more than the battery itself.+It has a nice gloss on it and it is simple to use.Con:-When I go the product the battery pack itself smelled like rubber, although I am a female gamer, I don't mind certain smells. However, I can't stand the smell of rubber! It finally stopped smelling like the gross rubber after a few days.Score: B- (Just have an issue with the gross rubber smell. The smell doesn't rub off and onto you which is a plus.)Weight/Size: The battery pack does add some weight to the system. I know some don't like the weight difference and there are those who like the weight because the system feels a little sturdier. The size can also be difficult because one will ask can it fit in my carrying case? Yes, it does. Even though, it not only added more weight but the size increased as well. It can fit in *some carrying cases. I say some because I am not sure what cases each and every individual person uses. You can also put your top hard case on your 3DS but not the back one. (Note: It will only work if it split. However it fits very bulky in a pocket and uncomfortable.Pro:+I like the weight because I always felt it will slip through my hand, fall and break.+You can still put your 3DS in a carrying case. (I still have my Hello Kitty DS lit case I use and surprised it still fits.)+The top hard case can still be applied on top of the 3DS. (A good example, I use my Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance collector's edition case. Make sure it is a two part case)+It has a nice rubber grip for your hands.Con:-It might be too heavy for some.-The 3DS does lose some of the sleek look with the battery bulk.-Some cases might have a difficulty fitting the 3DS case, so just make sure your case can carry the 3DS XL for an insure fit.-Some of the special cases for the 3DS like the Scribblenauts case cannot be applied on the battery.-Cannot fit comfortable in the pocket, but truth be told it is still uncomfortable before the battery pack is added.Score: B (Yeah it has some faults with it. Some of the newer cases coming out have pictures and it can look disjointed on the 3DS to have a beautiful case and an ugly back. The weight is possible an issue for younger gamers.)Battery Life quality: It says in the description it doubles the battery life an example, if your play time was 3 hrs. because of full 3D, sound, light, etc. it will be 6 hrs. and if you have 5 hrs. (max normally) it should double to 10. I can it does extend it to a certain degree. Does it double the life? Yeah give or take a half an hour. I don't need to charge my system as often as I usually do which is around 3-4 times a day. Now it's probably once a night. A small side note is the usual light that goes on when you original charge it doesn't turn on. The reason why it doesn't turn on is the battery pack is an external battery pack separate from the system thus the reason why the system doesn't register if the system is charging but it is. (Look at the note below.) You can have the light turned on if you just directly plug it into the system.Pro:+It does what is says+The base lights up and tell you when it is charging and not+Less charging and more playing video gamesCon:-Some people have issues not able to see the little light on your 3DS to say it's charging (This problem can be easily fixed and the battery will still holds it charge.)-A few other reviewers say it doesn't properly charge. (Look at Note 1 for solution)-There is a slight glitch between the battery pack and the dock station. (Look at Note 2 for solution)Note 1: To properly charge the 3DS with the battery pack, you need to use the power cord you first received with your system, plug it in the base, push the power button on the dock and place the 3DS on dock itself. Make sure the dock lights up red first which means it is charging the system. It may take (dependable if it is dead.) about an hour. In order for you to know if the system is charged it will light up green on the sides. Also, I know some reviewers say leave the system on so you know it is charging. You really don't need to. I have my system turned off and it still charges just fine.Note 2: I had a small issue with the dock reading my 3DS that needed a charge when I only had 3 bars. I found a solution by turning on the 3DS wait about 10 seconds and turn it back off. Then turn on the power dock on and then place your 3DS back on the dock and it should read the 3DS that needs to be charged. It was a slight glitch but nothing too horrible.Score: A- (I can understand why some might have an issue not seeing the light on the 3DS to tell you when you are charging it, but the base light does make up for it. I read a few reviews about the dock not reading the battery pack. I had a similar issue (slightly) but it can be easily corrected. Nobody's perfect after all.)Price: It's 9.96. I know many places that are selling this product for $30. Plus amazon offers free shipping ($25 purchase or if you have an amazon prime account any amount.) Also (for now in NJ) no tax on amazon (excludes some states that have tax on it.) You save a lot of money getting it from amazon and it doesn't hurt to want to extend the battery life.Pro:+Price is really good now+Free shipping (Prime members free 2 day shipping and non-prime purchase of $25 and about 5 days give or take.)Con:-Some might think cheap price=cheap product (Not in this case)Score: A+ (Price was amazing! I got it in two days with my prime account.)Why/Overall: I give this product a B+/A-. It's a great product and actually does what it says. The price is a steal because at GameStop it is 30+ tax, toys'r'us only offers the power pak but not the dock for 19.99+tax, or online for 9.98+tax+shipping. Some might have issues with the weight or unable to put a rubber case on it. I got it. I don't feel cheated not getting a case on my 3DS. I know some reviewers gave it cruddy reviews asking why do you need extra battery life? Why? It's like asking a gamer do you want extra lives on a level or extra experience points to level up a character. That's what you are getting with this, time to get all of the stuff you couldn't.
