Great introduction to habitats
This is an excellent introduction to habitats for children. I homeschool my children ages 9, 6, and 3. All 3 of them kept interest in this book and really enjoyed the pictures. This book was very well thought out with enough information to spark curiosity but also to keep them focused. We used this book with our Magic School Bus study that I found online (it uses the DVDs as well as books and writing assignments for elementary science study). This week we watched the Magic School Bus Hops Home. This book paired perfectly with our habitat study theme. I even learned something from this book! The only thing that was "wrong" was that the book implied all lakes are fresh water. I am from Utah and we well know that some lakes can be very salty such as the Great Salt Lake.Bottom line: we are glad to own this book and will read it again and again. This is a great beginning to read before studying each individual type of habitat. I would suggest this book be for children in elementary and possibly preschool. My preschool age daughter really enjoyed identifying animals. My 9-year-old who has Asperger's and is several grade levels ahead also enjoyed this so some middle school children may also really find this book helpful as a beginning study of habitats.

beautiful photographs...
This is an excellent book about habitats. The photographs are pretty but too much information for a first grader to sit down and read in one sitting. My 7 year old loves it because of the photos and information but prefers I read it to her.Great book to keep for years . The perfect resource for book reports.

A reference book for a kid's library
Age 7 - 10. This is more of a resource book for a classroom library, rather than something you would read aloud to a child or that an older child would read in one sitting. For example, grasslands is a two page spread which covers content like: "In North America, grasslands are called plains or prairies. In South America, they are called pampas. Animals called guanacos live on the pampas." Would appeal to fans of animals, or be helpful as part of a study about habitats. Photos and illustrations. (For reviews of books about habitats for younger children, see my blog Inventors of Tomorrow.)
