Yes, it does work fine with lircd.

Q: Can I use this unit to control my Raspberry Pi openelec and how?

I use it to control my RPi openelec. The little board that comes with it has labels for vcc, ground, and in. You can find the pinout of the RPi GPIO board online. You need to plug it in correctly, or you may fry it. Then there were two files that I had to drop onto my RPi. I think that one was called keymap.xml but I can't remember the other one. Then you can map key presses from the remote to functions in openelec. BTW, I'm not using the actual remote control that came with this. I'm using a Logitech Harmony One.

Any gpio pin works u just have to check the code ur using for this and make sure the pin matches
