About the Startup Describe your product in 3 words.BRAINS, BRAWN & BEAUTY How did you come up with the idea for this product?One day I saw my 4 year-old niece pretending to use a cell phone. When I took the really warm device away from her little hands and face, I realized that just as we are now becoming aware of the risks from long-term sun exposure, we will recognize that there must be health hazards also associated with holding these electronic devices against our heads –- particularly for the generation of young people who are beginning to use cell phones at such an early age. Of course, the next step was to determine if there was any basis for this logic. Sure enough, numerous scientific studies have confirmed this concern -- particularly with the “cumulative effects” of cell phone radiation -- and some cities like Berkeley, California have already passed a “Right to Know” law about the health risks associated with radio frequency radiation from cell phones. The inspiration was born -- the perspiration was just beginning: How to create a cell phone case that not only significantly reduces the radiation to the user’s head and body, but is also lightweight, durable, and with stylistic components that make a statement about who you are! What makes your product special?There are hundreds of cell phone cases on the market. Most are basic, made overseas from low-grade materials, and come in either a plain or a splashy color. What has been the best part of your startup experience?Like many of us, I had always hoped to make a contribution to improve the way we live. When I realized the need to address the dangers from cell phone radiation, I faced the immediate challenge of finding experts who understood the technical issues of creating a cell phone case that would reduce radiation, without a resulting loss of signal strength. Nothing is more satisfying now than to know that I have brought more awareness to this problem, and have created a solution that will benefit others.
