BACK IN STOCK!!! Death Church was recorded in two days at Southern Studios in April, 1983. It was the band's first long-player, following on the heels of their self-titled EP in 1981 and the "Farce" single on Crass Records in 1982. Arguably the most beloved album album of the band's many fans, Death Church wore it's contents on it's sleeve, quite literally. The intricate line drawings of vocalist/ guitarist NICK BLINKO are dark visions of madness, religion and death... all of which are to be found in the lyrics within. Musically, Death Church has been embraced and claimed by every fringe musical

Classic!!
Death Church is the band's 3rd release...and is their first full length album...their first [2] EP's-"Rudimentary Peni" and "Farce" were later released as the "EP's of RP" and are ESSENTIAL for any fan of excellent punk music...REAL punk not the pap circulating today...as i have said for going on 17 years now...ANY RP IS GOOD RP!!!-discography-Rudimentary Peni, Farce, Death Church, Cacophony, Pope Adrian 37th Psychristiatric, Echoes of Anguish, the Underclass, Archaic, No More Pain...(also there have been up to [4] live releases, of which i own [3]...[2] of them "LIVE" in 1982, and "Live CATASTROPHE" from 1983...THEY ARE AMAZING!!!!!)Nick Blinko-guitar,vocals,artwork,lyricist...Grant Matthews-bass guitar,lyricist...Jon Greville-drums...songs are written mainly by Grant and Nick with most of the credit usually(mistakenly)going to Nick...If you listen to their first efforts you'll hear a more fast anarcho-punk style...their album "Cacophony" is incredible! It's dedicated to the life and writings of H.P. Lovecraft...Pope Adrian was written and recorded whilst Nick was in a mental institution and is a gleaming example of his state of mind at that time...{also check out his book from 1995-"the Primal Screamer"-written from the point of view of his psychoanalyst...it is absolutely incredible!!...like Edgar Allan Poe mixed with Jean-Paul Sartre}...Echoes of Anguish, the Underclass and Archaic are more straight ahead solid offerings...No More Pain is less like their older style and stripped down, more punk rock than anarcho-laden songs, but still amazing! In short, as my good friend Ted L. told me once...if you haven't heard Rudimentary Peni...you don't know what punk is.

Definitely cool
Death Church is a great album, definitely one of the best purchases I've made in awhile. While I wouldn't claim to be punk myself, nor an anarchist or a vegan, as these guys were, I can definitely appreciate the fury with which Nick Blinko delivers his messages. This is pure rock, snotty, snarling and heavy. As with most punk albums, the tracks are pretty quick and center around the vocals and a fierce sounding guitar, but what stands out for me are Blinko's morbid, death obsessed lyrics and the little unexpected oddball moments ("...when you are a martian church, awwww[...]") where Blinko's personality shine through. The themes are rather socio-political, but the music rocks too much to really care. Plus, as always, I dig the horrific imagery and dirge-like qualities of the songs... it's pretty apparent why the band were considered both 'crust' and 'deathrock.' It's highly enertaining noise and everyone should give it a try.

What you would expect from Mr. Blinko and company. Excellent record!
It's Rudimentary Peni. You get what you get with RP and this, while a bit slower and more in control than EP's, is one of their best. I still like EP's better but that's the first RP stuff I heard.

The best
Without doubt one of the greatest anarcho-punk bands of all time. Death Church bypasses their previous work which is no small feat, they really are that good. I've got this on vinyl and had been trying for years to get the CD version, it was very hard to find (at a reasonable price anyway) but was well worth the hunt. Don't pay silly money but when you get the chance make it a worthy addition to your collection.
