It's just an aaa battery. I have used recharables in a pinch. **Q: Does this have a memory for the last used mode?** A: It always starts at the lowest setting. **Q: It doesn't look like a small keyring would actually fit thru the small keyring slot. Will a keyring fit in this flashlight?** A: yes it does, It comes with a tiny key ring. I was able to put it on but I used a toothpick as a guide to open the keyring and slide it on while putting the ligh on behind the toothpick.
