Repaired a ford 3000 perfectly

Neighbors 1972 Ford 3400 backhoe had power steering fluid spitting from up under the steering wheel..(a fairly common issue with older units). Not a good thing.. Before taking it apart, I ordered this kit. Quickly shipped and well packed.In taking it all apart, I found the steering shaft had a worn spot/groove. The sleeve that is supplied with this kit is suppose to slide over the shaft to make up the needed missing material on the shaft. MY own issue with the sleeve, is that it has a slot down one side, which would allow fluid to pass 'under' the gasket and waste my time on this fix.In looking on the net, I cleaned the shaft area very well (rust and pit free)... and added a layer of JB weld marine grade epoxy over the 'bad' area... Once hard, I sanded it down to the same level of the shaft base material.. then started putting it all back together... 100% leak free now.Another suggestion is to be sure to replace the felt disk under the steering wheel as it helps to keep dirt and dust out of the shaft area. Also grease the inside of the shaft column to prevent any rust flakes forming and dropping on top of your new seal, destroying it. I also suggest you replace the upper grommet to also help keep dirt and dust from getting into the shaft area... as the old ones get brittle and crack over time. They are all fairly inexpensive items that will help insure you won't be replacing this seal any time soon.I hope this helps some.....

My Ford 3000 was leaking power steering fluid from under the steering wheel. This kit helped me fix the issue.

Haven't used tractor yet, still working on something else. Don't know if it has corrected the problem yet, didn't leak when I steered it but haven't used it.
