The Book of Ballads (Original Art Edition)

Excellent reproduction of the original Art Pages. It's really nice to have this book in collection. The price is reasonable compared to other Art Editions though it is smaller than the IDW books. The page quality is good and the binding is sturdy. No complaint at all.Highly recommended.

Holy smokes, this is a beautiful book. Vess’ line art is amazing and truly comes alive in its original size. If you yearn for the land of faerie, then this is a good way in.

Fans of fantasy illustration rejoice! Charles Vess has been at forefront of fantasy illustration for over thirty years, collaborating with the greatest names in fiction from Neil Gaiman to Ursula K. Le Guin. His early comic book work for Marvel in the 1980s earned him a rabid fan base that just can't seem to get enough. This art edition contains all of the stories for Charles' self published "The Book of Ballads and Sagas" (with the exception of the Saga portion) as well as the stories later commissioned by Titan for the completed "Book of Ballads". The book is more closely trimmed than the standard Artist editions with a slightly lighter paper stock, but still ample enough to show off the artwork in all of its splendor. The result is a book every bit as beautiful as any original art editio, but one you can hold comfortably in your hands to read without the prerequisite table top or podium to rest it on. The scans are clear and capture the detail of the pen and brush and multi media Charles employs. The stories range from comedic to very dark from a series of writers at the top of their respective genres. As an added bonus, this edition won't break the bank. Priced at nearly half the cost of many of the competitor's artist editions, the Book of Ballads is affordable to fans of both Charles Vess and the original art edition format.
