ACADEMYP-51B Mustang

This was a birthday gift to my Grandson and he received it on time and loved the plane.

The parts fit perfectly and essentially it is building Legos lol, my only complaint is the decals are a little hard to work with especially for beginner modelers because they are thin and could easily break. They also have a clear film around them making them not look so good. Other than that not too shabby (note: I made a different scheme with different markings that are not included in the kit) happy building!

We didn’t realize we needed to buy some model glue for this kit. However, the concept it fun and it turned out cute!

The model is wonderfully detailed; but really lacks in the "fitting department". Barely any of the parts fit. The wings are too big for the actual plane and require tons of sanding.If you don't mind A LOT of sanding, filling, and hours on end trying to get it to work; then you'll enjoy this kit.

Great fit, detailed cockpit, etched panels, zero flash, etc. I had a great time building this kit! Unfortunately, the decals were a bit frustrating as they had very large borders. With a little work with hobby knife and extra coats of lacquer, they were improved. I also purchased some after market decals which will greatly improve the results when I choose to build this kit again. Overall, it's a great kit, but I'm only giving it 4 stars because of the decals.

I am just getting started with the build but right away notice the etchings in Academy's model are surprisingly much more detailed then Revells even in the next scale size up. It looks great & precise. I usually paint with airbrush acrylic but noticed the model plastic has a filmy like texture. This is likely why Academy recommends painting with enamel paints. Not a big deal but I missed this when purchasing it.

Quite fine panel lines, crisp mouldings, nice sharp decals, three variants to make, mine will be the English one, instructions look easy to read, but perhaps be like airfix, have the overall painting instructions to be in colour. Recommend this kit.

1999年に登場したキットで、当時の価格はサニーが代理店で700円という非常にコスパの高いキットでした。ドーサルフィンの有無に対応する為に胴体が前後で分割されているなど、明らかにアキュレイトミニチュアの1/48の影響を受けています。プロポーションは全体的には悪くありませんが、主翼だけが何故かオーバースケールで大きく、胴体とアンバランスになっているのが残念で修正もほぼ不可能。コクピットはそれなりに再現されているもののラジエーターはドンガラで、吸気口と排気口が筒抜けなのは考えモノ。せめてプラ板などで仕切りくらいは設けたいです。パーツの嵌合は良好なので組み立て易いキットです。アクセサリーは70ガロンと108ガロン増槽、500ポンド爆弾、M10ロケットランチャーと豊富に付属。キャノピーも通常型とマルコムフードが付属し、開閉状態が選択可能です。マーキングはアメリカ陸軍二種にイギリス空軍一種が付属し、エースのクラレンス・アンダーソン大尉(16機撃墜)、フォード・グローバー少佐(10機撃墜)、エウゲニウッシュ・ホルバチェフスキ少佐(16機撃墜)の乗機がチョイスされています。主翼の欠点を許容できるかで評価が変わるキットですが、細かい事を気にせずに気楽に楽しむには向いたキットだと思います。
