This lamp is really not a desk lamp because you would not likely run it for hours and hours at your desk for two reasons. First, unlike a desk lamp, you would unlikely leave it plugged-in while you use it because the charging port is at the top! not at the base. So to leave it plugged-in, the USB cable would be dangling from the top where the LEDs are housed - and not from the short edge, but on the long edge near the hinge - which also means it can't be charged while fully folded flat.Secondly, the battery is only rated to last about 3 hours. I bought this for my son who is starting college. I thought it could serve as a cool LED desk lamp and secondarily be portable and used as a flashlight. It's really just a fancy rechargeable flashlight. 3 hours is not long enough for a night of study at his desk. So that means he would have to leave it plugged in - with an ugly USB cable dangling from the top.Also, note that the rotation is always on one axis, so you can not tilt it to one side. And to make the LEDs shine over a book or keyboard, the base has to be rotated 180, cantilevering the LEDs. This is an unstable position - and top heavy as that is where the battery pack is. Hence, it includes a base clip to hold the base down and keep it from flopping over. Design flaw in my eyes.As a product designer, I understand the compromises made for aesthetic and manufacturing cost reasons. But these limitation really compromise the functionality. The battery should have been in the base to keep the center of gravity low, and move the USB charging port to the base where it will stay out of the way and can be left plugged in when portability is not needed. Yes, that would mean major design changes, but it could still have very similar look and feel. The arms would have to conduct the current from the battery at the base to the LEDs at the top - which would add manufacturing costs. But again, it would have made this lamp much more functional as a desk lamp.

I love the fact that it's all metal construction which give it a pleasant weight and it seems to be very durable. The 2 light settings are just right, and I love the translucent white cover over the LED lights that beautifully diffuses the emitted light. I love it so much I bought TWO!

This is a very slick little lamp perfect for a ton of different applications. I actually didn't realize how small it was until I received it and have been very pleased with how portable it is. Very cool design allows it to fold down into itself and is very thin. I also like how the LED light has 2 brightness settings.
