Product description Petrol Presents ~ Cuba: Greatest Songs Ever .com Petrol Records is an Australia-based company founded by former INX manager Chris Murphy that specialized in pop and rock before branching off into reggaeton and world music. Though the 12 tracks assembled on this compilation represent a good sampling of the son, montuno, bolero, and descarga genres that characterize Cuba's powerful mix of Spanish and African influences, the declaration that this disc represents "The Greatest Songs Ever" is enthusiastic at best. That said, there are some rare gems here, like Maraca's bouncy, "Tumbao Pa' Changuito," the immortal standard "El Manisero," known worldwide as "The Peanut Vendor," by Chira and Septeto Nacional, and the equally famous "Lagrimas Negras," performed by Septeto Nacional de Ignacio Pineiro, one of Cuba's most beloved conjunto ensembles. Selections by other groups, including Ad Libitum, Grupo Sonorama, and Los Naranjos, round out this collection, which is probably more suited for the Latin music neophyte than the seasoned listener. --Eugene Holley, Jr.

This was a good buy for us
this cd was a surprise! I bought this cd for one song that my husband likes very much - china nights. he was stationed in china & japan while in the military in the 60's when this song came out. when we listened to the other songs we were impressed by the mix of music that we heard. This was a good buy for us. we recommend this cd.

Music Lovers Need to own this thing!
I am an amateur musician and I have been going back in my memory, getting songs from my youth, and I remembered that Japanese hit song back in the sixties -- "Sukiyaki", they called it, because they figured that American's would find the real japanese title incomprehensible.I found the song in this collection... affordable... and so I bought it. but I listened to everything. Tracks 9 and 12 are honestly quite beautiful. Sad pianos and almost bluesy cords. Track twelve... an old voice... and such a powerful song, without understanding a single word, you are crying by the end of the song... honestly! If you love music, you really need this CD. Tracks 6, 9 and 12 especially.

Wanted Sukiyaki
although i don't speak Japanese i bought this album because i wanted to have the old hit "Sukiyaki". its the original version and its still wonderful to hear. i was a bit surprised to see that i was enjoying the entire album. it's a selection of songs covering several decades. my favorites are, track 6..Sukiyaki; and track 9..Jun Ai. this ong, "Jun Ai" is very moving; it's just a piano and a single female singer. really nice. anyway, i like this album, maybe you will too.
