Doesn't play Blu Ray movies as suggested.
I have a good computer system with Windows 10, Nvidia RTX 2080 Super graphics card, and Intel graphics with a 4K monitor. Basically everything that should be required to play 4K Blu Ray disc's. So I bought the Pioneer optical drive and the box sets for the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings, set it all up, and viola ... the movies can't be played. Apparently, there is hardware security built into the optical drive that prevents the movies from being played. To make things worse, the security technology has been discontinued by Intel and equipment manufacturers like Pioneer, so there is no way to make this drive play purchased disc's.My recommendation is that you do not buy this drive, or any other optical drive for a home computer, if the expectation is to play your Blu Ray disc's on the computer. For writing your own disc's this drive is probably top quality, but not for purchased media.I haven't tried regular DVD yet, but that doesn't use the same security as Blu Ray so I expect that would work.

Rips 4k no problem
I have been ripping blurays, but I got this so I could do 4k UHD. I read that some other drives have to be flashed in order to read 4k UHD, but this one doesn't. I popped in Titanic 4k and it worked. I am glad I bought this. It seems nicer than my other disc readers. I'm using Ubuntu with MakeMKV to rip the movie. I'm sure it works on Windows, but if not, I'll post update when I try it later.

Dissapointing
After 2 weeks of trying I can't get this device to make a Blu Ray video disc. It will store 'data' but to make a Blu ray as we know it requires additional software and expense so far that has not been successful.

Works perfectly in Linux
This drive works great! Pretty much plug and play in Linux. It's fast and reliable. I have only used it for reading discs so far and it seems to meet my expectations in every way.

Worked 45 days then it didn’t
Bought this to import movies into my NAS. Worked well for about 45 days. Stopped working/reading. Bought a disc cleaner but this did not help. It’s diagnosis was it had to skip a damaged area. Tried to get Amazon to help. They referred me to the vendor - PRODUPLICATOR - or something like that. Tried to call but the phone number isn’t in service. Read their fine print and they don’t accept any returned items after 14 days. Are you kidding me? $265 dollars for a Pioneer product and it has no warranty after 14 days? Customer service abysmal. Amazon didn’t give any options either. Expensive lesson learned. Won’t be purchasing any electronics from third party vendors with a customer service of less reputation than my local 99 cent store. Amazon should be ashamed to rep these guys too.
