i40 Flash for Sony Mirrorless cameras, NI-HI40S

Should have bought this sooner
What a fantastic flash which has opened new horizons for my X100S. If you own a FujiFilm camera and TTL bounce flash is your thing then this is what you need.Much as I love my X100S, photographing our little one indoors can be a frustrating experience. Our house is not especially well lit; our 'model' does not like sitting still; and the built-in fill flash is not always flattering. What I really needed was a good TTL bounce flash. The purchase was put off in anticipation of the long-rumoured new flash from Fuji themselves, and because of the high cost of this Nissin. However, when the Fuji's release date was put back 6 months - yet again - I thought enough is enough and bought this.I'm SO happy. It has exceed all my expectations. Basically, bouncing flash inside our house, I get near similar results with the X100S/i40 as my Canon 5D3 with EX430ii aboard. I can be firing at 45 degrees, straight up, at the side wall, at the back wall, it doesn't matter - there's always enough power to get a proper flash exposure in our lounge and other rooms. The above alone sealed the deal but there's several other niceties:- very compact and light- fast and easy to use (no menus to navigate)- bounce card and diffuser built in- can act as an optical slave- when acting as a manual optical slave, has a mode which will ignore a TTL preflash- continuous light built in (two white LEDs) with variable brightness level. Only available when the i40's dial is set to video mode- TTL or manually-set zoom 24-105mm- comes with neat protective pouch, and in that pouch is bundled a further Sto-Fen style diffuser (probably not an actual Sto-Fen) and a foot for the flash with tripod socket. There's room in the pouch for 4x AA batteries- if I remember correctly, it comes with a carabiner which I use to attach the flash (in its pouch) to my little camera bagAnother plus point is the head can be articulated into any position, which is more than can be said for my Canon speedlite.Anyhow, I love it because the results for bounce flash in the home are outstanding and it doesn't ruin the weight balance of the X100S.

Good Choice for a Fuji camera with a couple of niggles
Chose this flash over the Fuji flash as it was the more powerful flash with better features and a lower price, so far it has proved to be a good choice and works well on my X-T10, the biggest limitation is down to the camera sync speed of 1/180.The best feature for me is the ability to use bounce from virtually any direction and the built in bounce reflector, the controls are simple and easy to use but really need to be illuminated, the biggest problem I've had so far is the battery cover this has to be one of the worst designed covers ever, why complicate matters with a sprung hinge when a simple sliding cover would do.One last niggle, at £140 this really should come with instructions not just a quick guide, to have to locate, download and print off instructions (there are specific instructions for Fuji cameras) is a real downer.Niggles aside the flash works well and does what I need.

I love this flash
I love this flash, there is a firmware update that you have to send the Flash direct to Nissin for to enable HSS. The only way you can tell if yours has the update is by putting your camera's shutter speed beyond 1/1000. If it doesn't work then it needs the update and Nissin will do it for free and ship it back. This is great for general indoors, but it has a 100mm limit on focal length and any more greats banding and shadows as it can't reach beyond that.In retrospect I would personally but the i60 instead as its more powerful and therefore has better reach but this is a great compact flash for someone like me who doesn't normally use a flash but have it just in case for the occasional use. For the heavy user I'd recommend the i60 or even better a Godox.

product appears as used, not new
The flash seems clearly used. Moreover, they attached an adhesive label directly on the boxe (where the tab is at the point where the box opens and closes) and therefore to open the product it is mandatory to remove the adhesive label, ruining the box.The serial number of the product was also detached and placed in bulk in the box. I don't recommend buying

TTL works fine, Flash Compensation works a treat
Popped this onto my Fuji XT1 and took some test shots. I am very impressed. TTL works fine, Flash Compensation works a treat, Manual mode works and is simple to use. The flash head rotates allowing you to use bounced flash off walls and ceilings etc, the flash is small and neat and the controls on the back are well laid out and so easy to operate. It comes in a nice pouch with a stand and a diffuser. I will be using this for fill-in flash on sunny days and maybe a few indoor portraits. I think for £134.00 this is a bargain. I am super happy with this on my Fuji XT1.
