Yep, a true Masterpiece
Hello, lifetime Decepticon purist here. I have most of the Masterpiece Takara Decepticons at this point. Let me also say that Shockwave is among my most favorite of characters, so I have been going over this figure daily since I got him.Let's get a couple of things out of the way, since you're curious. The shade of purple is flat-out amazing here. I would not change it a bit. The light gray is also perfect, along with his light-catching yellow eye. I was very concerned about his color being off, as purple is my favorite color and this being a treasured character. The color is rich and just totally pops. I normally like darker shades of purple (even my PRS guitar is dark purple), but Masterpiece Shockwave's "chocolatey lavender" is unique and perfectly applied, taking you straight back to some of his best G1 "lonely Cybertron" scenes.I want to go ahead and say it at this point. This may very well prove to be my all time favorite Transformer in robot mode. It is a stunning display piece, needing no stand or flashy accessories. He has a decent range of articulation and I'm very happy with how well the figure's legs and feet allow the figure to easily stand on his own. The detailed "chest window" is just flat out awesome! It was super cool back in the G1 days and Takara did well bringing that magic back here. Again, in robot mode, I consider Masterpiece Shockwave a top-tier display Transformer. Wow.Laser-gun alt-mode is where I get a little nitpicky. The barrel design is outstanding, while the trigger design suffers. The robot's arms do a much better job here to support the barrel assembly than the original toy, but the elbow joints could still use some visible improvement in gun mode. Additionally, the rear of the gun could use some touching up. Display-wise, gun mode is still pretty great, just not as amazing as his primary mode. The laser light is fantastic! The color is so bright and awesome. Unfortunately, it requires both watch-style batteries and triple A's. Surely, Takara could have done better there. It's also unfortunate there are no optional sound effects to go along with the laser. The 'tubing' on his laser arm is actually a very cleverly designed, super tight purple spring. A great touch that puts the figure over the top.I do wish the size of the piece was just slightly bigger. Gun mode feels slightly less than "adult-size" and his robot mode is so great, it deserves to be bigger. Still though, the size looks amazing when he's placed with other Masterpiece Transformers.Final notes would be that I wish the figure had a bit more die-cast. Metal feet and/or leg parts would have been a nice touch. The legs on this figure are really well done and in my opinion, a big improvement over the third party Quakewave.I'd still give this figure a perfect 10 out of 10, despite my minor complaints. This lifelong Shockwave fan is totally thrilled!

Great Shockwave!
Takara finally gave their fans what they've wanted - more Decepticons! After a steady diet of autobots... Ironhide, Ultra Magnus, Wheeljack, Rodimus, Bumblebee, etc, we get the first new mold official Decepticon since Soundwave and his Cassetticons (from 2014!). Masterpiece Shockwave is well worth that wait. A vibrant purple, giant floating "Vulcan Cannon," Shockwave is one of the more peculiar looking Decepticons. Emotionless, his pulsing yellow eye eerily reminds you of 2001 A Space Oddessey.Cannon mode is very G1 toy, and perhaps rather weak. He has a lot of obvious screw holes, some gaps, and overall unambitious. Unlike Ironhide or Optimus Prime, where they took the G1 alternate mode and really fixed a lot of the issues, with Shockwave, they just basically ported over a 30 year design with minimal changes. It's closest comparison is mp08 Grimlock. That being said, the designers did add an ingenious way to handle the muzzle kibble. Third party versions of shockwave folded the muzzle inside out to create Shockwave's backpack, but this amounts to partsforming... Something some masterpiece fans abhor. Takara went a slightly unique route. The muzzle is still the backpack, but they added a swinging diecast lever that connects the muzzle to the back. An optional display stand for gun mode clips over the muzzle, and seals the deal (still partsforming, but optional).Best of all, the tube that feeds from Shockwave's nuclear reactor to his hand laser is a funky, slinky-like metal spring. It feels weird, but works fantastically, and won't suffer the rubber-rot of g1 and third party tubes.Biggest issues I've read online are scale and shade of purple. Those I cannot review, it's all in the eye of the particular buyer. All my photos are temperature-matched for the exact shade (very painstakingly long process) but it depends on the temperature of your display if you see the actual shade of purple. Further causing issues is the fact that the type of light affects the shade of purple. Warm, 60W will give a nice, almost Quakewave hue, full spectrum will give you the colder, bluish tint seen here. Hopefully it will help.Shockwave is definitely a worthwhile purchase, I do think his design fits well with the other official and third party mp-level transformers. If you have a third party shockwave already, I would recommend picking this guy up anyway, because he is a fun toy to transform, and the mini-Vulcan Cannon is an awesome accessory, and the tube design is a wonder to behold. Hopefully Fanstoys and Cloud 9 can offer a copy to their Quake____ buyers.

A true masterpiece!
I always kind of liked Shockwave. He was an interesting character in both the old G1 TV series and in the IDW comics. Plus, frankly, the Masterpiece line has been somewhat lacking in Decepticons. One can have only so many Seekers, after all.So I jumped at the chance to get Masterpiece Shockwave! I'd never had the toy as a kid, and this seemed like a great chance. Now that I have it, what do I think? It's great! Just great! It looks good, it has a nice heft to it, has some great poseability, and a surprisingly complex transformation. I like that the gun "barrel" part is no longer detachable, but rather forms a part of his body. I also really like that instead of a rubber hose connecting his gun arm to his body, we have a spring with some string in it. I suspect this will hold up well.Additionally one gets multiple different hands, so if you want Shockwave to be throwing a salute, for example, he can. He also gets a gun to carry which...er...is basically him in gun form. A bit odd, but he did that in the TV show, so there you are.Now the price here is a bit steep, but I feel it's worth it for what you get, which is something very great. I highly recommend this toy to anyone who likes G1, Shockwave, or just Decepticons in general.

All hail Megatron!!!
All hail Megatron!! I was lucky enough to find Shockwave on sale, delivery was sooner than expected as well. Love the transformation process, and he looks great next to my Soundwave!! In hand, he looks like he could have jumped off the animation cell.

A literal Masterpiece.
The designs are gorgeous! Very detailed model and the engineerity of this model is well done. The lightning and equipments are very good specially the minature version of Shockwave. Both of the feet are metal dye cast and backpack hinge is also metal which is a good choice regarding to the heavyness of the backpack. I like how they make the tube as a metal spring, it gives some unique aethetic vibe to it. The head swivel is good and both of the feet and hand. It has waist movement and shoulder swivel. The only problem i have with this model is the color, it would be more cooler if Takara Tomy went on a much more darker color so it gives more G1 cartoon accuracy. Next is the bagpack, its too big and its like a bagpack that little kids bring in school, well if its in alt mode that wouldn't be a problem. The feet is kinda bulky, and when in gun mode, you can see the inside of the handle.I'll give this model an 9/10 overall. Honestly it's a majestic piece of work thumbs up for Takara Tomy for bringing this toy.
