A GREAT BOOK..
I purchased the book BASS-ICK THEORY because knowing the author the way I do; I knew it was going to be a good book. After reading the entire book, I realized that it is a great book! I am a drummer whose theory has a lot of rust on it because I do not use it like I did when I was in music school. Reading Tony’s book put some drops of oil on what little theory I knew, and inspired me because of his teaching, … no … “sharing” style, to start studying again using his book. His lessons and tips are easy to comprehend because he takes the time to explain everything he is doing. This makes learn from his book clear and uncomplicated, whether you play bass or not.I also found that because Tony would break up the lessons with stories, (funny, serious, and good stuff to know in general), his life lessons, quotes, food for thought, and the introduction of someone we all know, “LEROY”, still with the focus on music … my interest stayed in the book and I looked forward to reading and learning more!I recommend Tony Muhammad’s book, BASS-ICK THEORY if you are working on becoming a well-rounded musician, regardless of your instrument or skill level. And if you are working on “stuff” to become a well-rounded person! It is a great buy!!GG

Must-have book for any bass player
There are many books on music theory for bass players (I've read a lot of them), so I can understand people wondering which one to invest in. What's unique about this book, and why I say it's a "must have," is that it's so much more than just a book about music theory. Not only does it present applicable theory in a simple, understandable way, it also includes invaluable advice and perspectives from experienced bassists who have had successful careers over many years. In addition, the author understands that not everyone who picks up a bass knows how to read music. For that reason, he offers the information without writing out notes or using a musical staff - he just explains it in a way that anyone can understand. The book has a lot of funny stories and generally excellent advice on a variety of topics that you don't ordinarily find in a book like this - from the value of a positive attitude in being hired as a musician to how to organize your practice sessions so they are most effective. It also has 15 specific, structured exercises to help the reader become a thoughtful, capable bassist. Each exercise can be practiced for months if not years, so I'm sure this book will be one I pull out over and over again.

Sincerely written
This book was not just about the bass or the music. Tony opened himself to the reader to reveal his humble journey to find his voice in his music and his personal development. While making it funny and inspiring. Who has not had a Leroy in their lives.. Either you grew up with him, went to school with him, worked with him or hired him. At some point you learned something from him in between laughing at him or being totally frustrated with him. He's necessary.I also was so impressed how Tony shared his experiences with everyone. Good, bad and embarrassing. That's being authentic. He wants us to see how important it is to extract all you can from every experience in order to push yourself to the next level. The greatest take away for me was the call to be at your best no matter what. Know it, study it, embrace it, FEEL IT!!!Tony T.

Down-to-earth, accessible, & practical wisdom
I really enjoyed this book. Not only does it educate about music theory and bass fundamentals in a unintimidating and accessible way, it is full of wisdom, quotes, and real life anecdotes from working bass players whom he admires. This book is unique in that it goes beyond theory and bass techniques to include social and spritual philosophies about music and musicianship. Many of his life lessons are things I wished I known when I was younger. The exercises he introduces are practical and his down-to-earth writing style makes them seem approachable. Most importantly this book feels very heartfelt and soulful and it really resonates with me.

Music Theory connected to important quotes.
As a fellow musician and your brother from another mother I especially love the way you connected music theory to world renown musicians and musicians who are not well known. The character "Leroy" should have an autobiography written about his antics. This book is a testimony to how technical excellence on a musical instrument allows us to nurture and cultivate the artistry of music. This book gives the reader important snapshots of how they can organize sound. The artists in "BASS-ICK THEORY" share comments and quotes on how the reader can practice, connect and share musical sound with others.

Tony has managed to combine with a great sense of genius an awesome collection of true to life stories of some of today's most accomplished musicians, intertwined with absolutely must know musical theory. But you don't have to be a Bass player or musician to enjoy this book. The stories are rich, the advice and lessons learned are priceless and applicable to all of life's journeys. Without a doubt this book serves as a road map to excellence !!! Climb aboard with Tony and Leroy and enjoy the ride !!!!

A good recommendation
Bass-ick Theory is a book where you just don't read it you study it. Taking a journey into the world of a bass player learning the instrument, picking up various fundamentals for example a chord and a circle 4th, the purpose of a bass player, to getting different perspectives from experienced musicians. A good recommendation for any beginner trying to become a bass player or if you have problems reading music.P.S. don't forget your coloring pencils.
