2011 album from the Swedish rockers. Cold spell were formed in 2005 by guitarist and songwriter Michael Larsson, who was previously with the band R.A.W., who that recorded two albums in the 90's. Together with four other experienced musicians, the band Cold spell are ready to impress you with their own brand of Hard Rock that draws influences from a mixture of everything they grew up with from the groove of the 70's to the choruses and melodies of the 80's, mixed with the raw and naked excitement of the 90's, not forgetting the production expertise of the millennium.

Excellent hard rock album
Every now and again an album comes out of left field and catches me completely by surprise, and that's exactly what happened here with Out From The Cold. I picked this up when it popped up on my recommendations. I liked the band name and the cover art looked cool. That was it. Turned out to be a great decision! In my book these guys aren't a metal band, but what they are is a very talented heavy rock group. A lot of the tracks remind me of a slightly heavier version of Whitesnake, or even MSG. The tracks are catchy, solid guitar work and I'm a big fan of the vocalist - I understand every word he sings and he's never drowned out by the music. Impressive

Sweden's version of Blue Murder!
Out From The Cold is the highly anticipated second album from Swedish rockers Coldspell who blew away the melodic rock world a few years ago with their killer debut Infinite Stargaze. Coldspell's music is a hard rocking mix of epic songwriting that revolves around awesome grooving guitar riffs with powerful melodic vocals and huge production. The guitar playing is definitely the highlight of this band both in terms of the meaty riffs and wicked solos. They sound very similar to the legendary band Blue Murder and I'm sure John Sykes would be proud! Highlights include the massive opening song "Heroes", the amazing groove of "Six Feet Under", the epic build up of "The King", the hard rocking "Fate", the melodic chorus of "Seven Wonders", and the rocking verses of the closing song "Out From The Cold". Despite falling slightly short of the debut in terms of memorable songwriting, Out From The Cold is still an essential album for fans of Coldspell and Blue Murder and is also highly recommended to fans of Pink Cream 69, Pagan's Mind, and Eden's Curse. Can't wait for the third album now!

Quality melodic metal
Not be confused with the lame pop band Coldplay, this Swedish hard rock/melodic metal band certainly have the chops and the balls. I think it may have been melodicrock.com where my attention was first drawn to this band that I had never heard of before, and after watching their clip on Youtube for the opening track Heroes I penciled them in as a band to check out when the album was released. Good thing I did. With Out From The Cold (turns out it's only their 2nd album but they don't look like young dudes) they deliver a very consistent bunch of hard rocking, melodic metal songs. In fact I struggle to remember an album that had such a level of consistency as this does. No filler here, just some songs that stand out more than the others, but all are extremely enjoyable for my ears. At times I hear elements that remind me of Dokken at their peak, other times I hear a little bit of classic Warrant and Whitesnake's groove, while a guitar driven rock sound a-la Saxon prevails throughout. Yeah, this is a HUGE guitar album, but the production is even across the range of instruments and easier on the ears than the other big guitar album this year (Whitesnake). This is an album that I can put on repeat and listen to over again, time after time... and I do! Some other metal-lifers may well say that they've heard this type of thing before and that is true, Coldspell don't re-invent the wheel here. Yet I do find this album and their sound refreshingly new and original at the same time. Coldspell have got the elements of great metal from yesteryear mixed with today's sound, as well as the perfect blend of punch and melody that I find so appealing yet have struggled to find from other new releases this year. With such a consistently good album it's hard to say which are the best songs, but those I do tend to like a bit more are Run For Your Life, One In A Million, Six Feet Under, Time, Seven Wonders, the title track Out From The Cold, and my ultimate favorite The King. This song builds nicely from a mellow start until the 2.05 minute mark when the big power chord riffs kick in and it the song climbs into the wonderfully melodic chorus and puts me into melodic metal ecstasy. If somehow anyone still isn't convinced that Scandinavia rules the world of melodic metal these days, then check this album out because it's further proof that they do, and in the future Coldspell have the potential to be champions of the genre if they keep releasing albums of this quality.

"Out of the cold" is "Coldspell" taking it to the next level!!
"Out from the cold" is the second, brand new album by Swedish melodic metal/hard rock band "Coldspell". Having caused quite a stir in the hard rock/metal scene with their debut, the group has returned with an even more accomplished second album. The line up features lead singer Niclas Swedentorp, guitarist Micke Larsson, key player Matti Eklund, bassist Anders "Kebbe" Lindmark, drummer Perra Johansson. This new album draws heavily on the melodic hard rock of the 80s as far as songwriting goes; for that matter the influence of bands like "Whitesnake", "Dio" and "Pretty Maids" are more than evident. The production, is the largest possible with emphasis on thick guitars and up-front drumming; in addition there seems to be a conscious attempt to write even catchier vocal melodies, hooks and choruses which in fact work to their advantage, making "Out from the cold" a memorable and even more infectious album than its predecessor. Favorite tracks include "Run for your life", "One in a million", "Time", "Save our souls" and "Seven wonders".One has to also address that "Coldspell" have been often labelled as `progressive rock/metal' amongst metal circles, still what one hears on "...cold" is powerful, direct and melodic hard rock/metal that never sounds complicated or forced; and for that matter the track-list flaws very naturally, making "Out from the cold" a great start to finish heavy/melodic experience.
