Used or refurbished
The tool itself is excellent. But I received it used and possibly disassembled. One of the screws has scratches on the head (see photo). It arrived hastily repacked, things not in the right places inside the box. Some plaster / chalk on the vents. Some disks used. Fingerprints on the power plug contacts.

disappointed
i bought this at Christmas, but only opened the box today and found the colletts provided did not fit any of the tools, and there was no instruction book either. i have had to order a collet set after looking through the other reviews where other purchasers have had exactly the same problem, at the price it is disappointing quality control checks are not more stringent, hence the three stars

functionality
was happy that my new Dremel came promptly but was quiet astounded when I opened it. When I opened the bottom draw there was a note as shown in the photo telling me that there was damage above the draw and when it is fully open you can not close the draw. I can not understand why some one would be responsible enough to take the time to write a note informing me of the damage and not simple replace the tool box it comes in. I hope this is a mistake and not common practice. I would very much like for you to exchange the damaged box with a new fully functional one that I can use. Yours expectantly Mr A Williams

Oh irony of ironies.
The very first thing I did with my Dremel was....... 'fix' my Dremel.Or to be more accurate one of the attachments, the line and circle cutter. Everyone knows that you cannot mark/cut an accurate circle if you are pivoting around a slanted pivot pin, no matter how small a deviance, you will end up with ellipse... Oh Dremel... You make good tools, but your quality control is all over the place.I did what everyone (I would imagine) does when getting something new, I examined it, everything was fine except for the line and circle cutter. As you may have already gathered the pivot pin was slanted, which I only noticed because I intend to cut the smallest circles it can do ~19mm Dia. So when I brought the pivot pin as forward as it would go towards the tool cutting bit, it got caught on a screw that holds the tool clamp, because the screw itself had been screwed in at a slant and was raised above it's hole which in turn made the platform the pivot pin was welded to slant, and therefore the pivot pit itself wasn't vertically perpendicular to the horizontal. So I got out the flat grinding bit and proceeded to true up the screw head.. All's good, yeah?.... No.The pivot pin was still at a slant, Ahhhh, I notice there was a slight bump on the platform that the pivot pin was on because it poked through to the other side, ever so slightly, because of it's weld.. so again, I ground that out. "Finally", I thought, and examined it again.. now it was slightly slanted in the opposite direction. Obviously Dremel had tried to compensate for the inaccuracy introduced by bad welding, by making the screw head protrude slightly (or that's what I tell myself).. So in the end I had to introduce a thin shim to under the pivot pin platform to compensate for it's overall slant, something I could have done to begin with, without the grinding... Oh Dremel. To be honest, I love this little machine, it's handy, versatile and will do the jobs you need it to do.. it's a 5 star product. However I do not expect to futz with it out of the box in order for it to be able to do it's advertised functions accurately.. so you lose a star for that... Oh, Dremel.
