Excellent map, indispensable.
This map is so good, I gave mine away. I knew my 229 map was one revision behind but I had been planning on waiting until one later than this (2010) came out.I was on a trip last month, heading out of the Elkmont area and noticed a father and son gearing up and looking at the official park map. I asked if they were going to 23 or 30 and the father said he thought is was 24. I knew 21 and 24 were closed, and figured they could use a better map. I handed him my 229 map, told him 21 was not on it in the right spot and pointed his way to 23 after he checked his permit. He thanked me for the map, and I thanked him for giving me an excuse to get a new one.I'm taking another trip this weekend so a new 229 is on the way.Let me also recommend the 316 and 317 maps, they split the park in 2 East and West sides to be even larger and provide more detail than the 229.

Map is Great
First of all, understand that this is a MAP. Not a guide of hikes or places. With that being said I am glad I bought this. It is an excellent map of the Smoky Mountains. This can be a little difficult to read if your not familiar with map reading but rest assured this map has it all. It lists trails, roads, trail heads, contours, elevations, and even has important features like waterfalls, mountain elevations, distances, etc. The map is well constructed and lined with waterproof covering so there should be no reason that this map will last for years. The map itself is large and printed on both sides so expect to lay it flat on the floor to read. I will and intend on buying this again when the new maps come out. If you take some time and learn map reading you will never need another reference other than this.

Great material and good reference, however loses some detail in trails
Detailed enough to know the trails general route but for some of the closer switchbacks you cant see the detail. The waterproofing and tear resistance is fantastic. It was used in rain and fog while in the park and it is still holding up like its brand new. The location of all the buildings is well laid out and helpful, however they cover some of the trail lines on the map which can lead to confusion when approaching the shelters, campsites, lodges, etc. This loss in detail would be hard to prevent though, simply because of the scale of the park.Overall this is a great product for use camping and hiking through this park and I would recommend it.

Be aware: Disney ownership, copyright dates may not be revision dates
Trails Illustrated maps are no longer published by the National Geographic Society. Rather they are published by a business corporation named "National Geographic Partners", which is 73% owned by The Walt Disney Company. Many of the maps have been reprinted with a 2019 copyright date (and a 25% price increase), including this title, but the cartographic data may not have been updated. I collect maps extensively and own dozens of Trails Illustrated maps, and I have found several titles that were reprinted with a new copyright date, but only minor revisions in the ephemeral text. It seems that Amazon has caught on to this, and is listing the actual revision date. The ISBN cannot be relied on to distinguish editions for maps and atlases, as publishers will often retain the same ISBN even when publishing updated editions.

Fantastic Map of all the trails
Excellent map of Smokies, so glad I purchased. This is my second year hiking in the smokies and I wanted to see all the trails, not just "some" listed in hiking guides of most popular trails. This map is awesome. It shows roads, trails, trail heads, distance of each trail, if the trail has a waterfall, where camping areas are and much more. It's is very well made on thick paper with a little coating to be used multiple times. It is a huge map, I have to spread it out on the floor and do my planning. It has two sides to it covering the smokies and a little of the cherokee forest. Best map I have found of hiking trails for the Smokies. Don't hesitate to purchase.

Check more than one source...missing info...
It's an ok map, but between it and the GSMNP "weird trail signage" one needs to check two sources when headed into the park. This particular map was useful recently on a short hike in the Smokies, but made NO MENTION of 3 ambiguous trails and one significant (modern) building --all in less than 2 miles from Elkmont Campground. ---just seems lacking to me!!!!

Just couldn't be better. The paper that's used seems to be impervious ...
Super-detailed map of the Smokys. One side has the eastern portion of the park, the other has the west end. Just couldn't be better. The paper that's used seems to be impervious to water, but I haven't tested it. The details are superior, and it's large enough for many provided notations. A good buy, especially if you want to visit the park. Get it! You won't be sorry. And, it's cheaper than buying it in a book store (I checked...).

Beautiful Map!
Beautiful map, highly detailed. Wish it had a few more trailheads or waterfalls marked, but what is on there is awesome. My only dilemma is whether to keep in my pack for reference or mount on the wall for inspiration. Guess I should get another one (or 2, since it's double-sided)! The paper is a thicker, glossy type which seems like it will hold up better than an old paper map. It's still relatively new (6 months) so time will tell how durable it is.

Excellent Map!
Great quality map! It’s very detailed and high quality made material. I’m hoping to use this for a very long time. I believe the scale is 1:70 000.

It was as it was described.
The map was as described. It showed trails and roads as the tille suggested. The trails I used were accurately shown and distances correct. I would buy this series again if going to other National Parks,
