Powerful novel!
Bought this book over 20 years ago and had students read as a class novel. Over 20 years later, I thought I’d buy the book again and read it as I traveled for the first time to South Africa. Beautiful story about perseverance and family.

Lovely message behind the story
I bought this book as my class novel for my Year 4 and 5 class. The short chapters meant it was easy to read and discuss a chapter a day.It was great to see the children engage in the content of the book and develop their understanding of apartheid in South Africa in the 1970s.

GREAT BOOK. JUST WISHED IT WAS LONGER. :)
What I liked was that it was a beautiful story about history. I liked how it wasn't a fiction story but a non-fiction story. Maybe not for the writer but for what happened before. What I didn't like was that it was too short. 75 pages isn't the best for a great book... and some of the african languages kind of confused me. They didn't really explain what the words meant.Besides that, is was a great book.
