Fashion: The Essential Visual Guide to the World of Style

This is such a lovely book, quite unlike any other fashion book I have read. It does not go into depth on every subject but introduces you to the whole world of fashion from the 20th century right up until 2018. There are not any photographs in this book but the illustrations are so pretty and the colours used makes this visually a pleasure to read. I just wish there had been illustrations for clothing styles of the 1970's rather than just a description in the chapter on Fashion Eras. I would also have liked illustrations of womens trousers and shorts and blouses and tops in the chapter on styles and trends. These items do appear on other pages but to have examples in the styles and trends chapter would have made it an even better source of reference for artists or students. The book concentrates mainly on women's fashion with a few pages devoted to men's fashion. However this book covers subjects not usually found in other books, such as maternity fashion and fashionable dogs. I would consider it an excellent overview of 20th century and contemporary fashion, a really lovely book to dip into that will look good on your bookcase or coffee table. It would make a wonderful gift for anyone interested in fashion.
