I have an older K5SS KitchenAid model that I regularly use (for about 35 years!). This spiral dough hook performs MUCH better than the original equipment C-shaped hook. I just made some sourdough using 1,000 g flour at ~75% hydration, and found that mixing and kneading was very efficient with much less mess of ejected flour than is typical with the C-hook. This spiral hook fits perfectly in my mixer. Perhaps a stainless steel dough hook would be better for durability and ability to clean in a dishwasher, but this model is inexpensive and explicitly lists my KitchenAid model as being compatible. Highly recommended!

It's fantastic! I have a 600 series KitchenAid, tried to capture that in a picture for you. It works great, the dough actually slides off the hook really well, and does a great job kneading the bread. It's super thick and durable, if ever needed, I'll replace this one with the exact same dough hook in the distant future.

This makes dough mixing easier and more efficient. My mixer usually handles 20 ounces of water and about 7 cups of flour. The 5 qt. Mixer did strain toward the end of the mix cycle with the new hook. Plan on reducing your usual amount of ingredients if you have an older mixer with about 325 watts. Otherwise the new hook is a definite improvement.
