Question 1

Has anyone used the larger size grill with Duraflame fire logs?  Desert camping, and wanted to use it for heat rather than cooking.

I own two of the Larger size grills, and I have never used a Duraflame log in either of them. I do believe it would fit and work, but only for heat as you suggest. Please keep in mind, NOT to cook/grill using a Duraflame log, as to not being sure of the chemical make-up of the logs which may  contaminate your food. Always play on the side of caution when using such man made fuel sources. Otherwise, the grill is very well built, and I highly recommend it.  -Stephen, Middletown, Ohio

Can I burn pellets in this pit?

This is nice but not necessary, line the bottom and sides with aluminum foil for easy ash removal. Not the ends though, need the air holes. Then take small small crumpled pieces of foil (size of your fingernail, about four in the mini fire pit and 6-7 in the larger one and place them in the bottom for more air flow. Throw in the pellets and light (not a huge amount through). Add as it burns down.

Question 3

My grill became warped and the foldable sections became unhinged after two uses. Did anyone else have the same issue?

Actually haven’t used it yet but it’s not a super heavy gauge steel I guess? One thing I thought of was solid fuels, i.e. Hexamine tabs and starter logs/fat wood gets pretty hot. Probably quick hot fires using accelerants or letting it just sit full of glowing hot embers for long periods will burn it out fairly quickly.

Keep this in mind: usually ultralight compact gear is not going to last but so long even with using great care. Lite usually = Expensive = weaker tolerances and shorter life.

May be serviceable though? I mean what was it $20? That to me says couple few seasons and she’s done.

You can probably get a titanium one that will last for years but rather than $20 more like $300+. Pro ultralight expedition gear from a trusted manufacturer. That’s if you really trust anything by a brand name any more. There are exceptions but they are always pricey. I just keep mine in the truck with some just in case gear.

I have a fear of the cold so I keep a Kelty Gamma 0 degree bag. In the winter months. It is out of production I think now but it’s a synthetic down and very warm and pretty tough. Like a $400 bag at the time. Unquestionably warm and packable. Not as compact as down but close. Not including the warm weather inner bag or Goretex outer shelter/bivi. Point being you get what you pay for. If you know what you’re looking for.

In closing, I don’t expect to hand mine down to my great grandson or anything like that. But at the same time I was pleased with it especially for the price. 😀 Have fun!

Can i use a dutch oven on this

No Do NOT use dutch ovens or put heavy stuff on this. And also very unstable.  This is made of very thin metal. Mine is already warping and rusting after few uses. I changed to Campingmoon Brand MT-2 and it is made like a military tank with heavy gauge stainless steel rods and plates. But sadly they are bit on the heavy side.
