Dalen Mow-Over Tree Stake Kit – Young Tree Protection – Eliminates The Need to Trim Around Stakes - Durable and Easy to Install

Inferior product x 10
Worst tree stake system I've ever seen. The wood stakes will rot and not last even one season. The eyehole pins don't stay in the angled hole of the stake. The plastic cord doesn't knot well...or remain knotted. I ended up improvising, using only the stake but devising my own tree support with different cord and other materials I had. I'd have sent it back the day it arrived but we'd just had a tree moved and needed some support till I could do better. The best and most professional tree stake system is still thick wire and a rubber padded collar that you can use with any ol' wood stake.

Works as Advertised!
I used these for two medium-sized trees that we slightly uprooted during a recent hurricane that passed our way. After fixing their placement, I installed this stake kit for each of them. I am very happy with the results! They are durable, and keep the tree where it needs to be without further damaging it. The installation is pretty simple, with one big exception - driving the wooden stakes in the ground. If you have soft ground, this task is no problem. However, if you have hard ground like me, you'll need to improvise your method of getting these wooden stakes into the soil to the proper depth. If you simply pound the wooden stakes into the hard ground, they will eventually crack and shatter. I drove a steel shaft of a slightly smaller diameter as the wooden stake into the ground first with at a sledgehammer, loosening the soil around it every inch or two. This did the trick! The wooden stakes went in great, and were securely fashioned. The pins easily remove and are reapplied to the stakes, making mowing easy. Highly recommended!

The concept and stakes are great, the rope and pin - not so much
For the price, I am satisfied.I found that the Polypropylene Rope that ships with this is not easy to use, but certainly is the cheapest option for the manufacturer. The poly rope is very prone to slipping out of knots and is one of the poorest ropes to use in UV light. Go figure - they decided to use that rope for a tree, that's outside, 24 hours a day. Granted I understand you will not stake the tree forever, but what about being able to re-use the product?I still recommend this package just for the stakes with pre-drilled holes, and the sleeve to wrap around the tree seems like it will work fine. Still cost-effective for those 2 things alone.I'm going to Lowe's tonight to get my own rope and a different type of pin that will be more anchored. It's mentioned in another review that the pin slips out too easily - this is very true. Something to keep the pin locked in place would be much more ideal. Simply unscrew or unclasp the pin to mow over..just one extra step in pin removal - no big deal.*ALSO - it is imperative that you place a piece of wood on top of the stake when hammering into the ground - or you will split the stake. I used a long screw driver to hammer a "pilot" hole in the ground as well, the last 5 inches gets difficult. Go ahead and order an extra pack because the stakes do split, and you are screwed if you don't have extra ones handy. I applied to 2 trees, and split 1 stake out of 6.

Works well, but be aware
First of all the product is a very smart idea. After installation the product works as advertised and saves me a great deal of time when doing yard work. I'll have a much better idea of product performance when hurricane season begins. The wood seems to be of good quality as I was originally concerned how well it was going to hold up. The only problem I had was a by product of having very hard ground where I live. Due to that, I purchased extra stakes because I knew the first six inches would be easy, but the remaining six to seven would be very challenging. This proved to be the case. In the process of hammering them in I split several sticks. If you have very hard ground I would recommend that you put the pins in before beginning to hammer as I had a few instances where I had to hammer so vigorously that the top rolled over where the pin hole was. I may have been able to save the spike were it not for that. All in all a great product that I would highly recommend and purchase again. I can't fault the product for the very hard ground that I have.

Good BUT BEWARE!
The package comes with everything you need including plenty of rope. Included in the package are 3 stakes, rope, felt (to go around the trunk of the tree) and 3 eye-pins. BE WARNED - the stakes are very long (which is good), but in order to get them down in the ground far enough so you can mow over, you will need to smack them many many times!! The first one i put in broke half way in - so now i have to buy another pack to finish the tree! Lesson learned - use a crow bar to pre-drill/pound the hole for the stake. Once i did this the other two went in just fine. I was also worried about the eye-pins falling out with a strong breeze, but so far, so good. I should also be able to adjust the ropes as the tree grows.
