WATER SOURCE YH-4 4' Yard Hydrant

bought this to supply water to a jobsite over the winter and it has worked great for the masons, landscape contractors etc who have needed access to water through the winter.

Looks good I already have some of the.same hydrants. Have been trouble free for years.

We purchased this hydrant from Menards and installed it yesterday, this was a replacement for an existing hydrant. This is the model with the blue handle. There is a constant rainbow grease film on the top of the water in the tanks and buckets that are drawn from this hydrant. We've spent 4 hours running water through this hydrant and can't get rid of the grease film. This hydrant in the 2nd hydrant on a water line with 4 hydrants installed, the hydrant before the new one and the two after it do not leave a grease film on the top of the water, they are older. I called Water Source USA to ask what type of grease they used inside the hydrant; the gentleman was extremely defensive and denied any grease had been used inside hydrant. I'm guessing we are not the first customers with this problem. Our animals will not drink the water from this hydrant, if you insert your hand in the water and pull it out it leaves grease on your hand and there is a smell. I’ve live on farms almost all my life and have replaced many hydrants but have never encountered this problem.I'm not sure what type of grease or lubricant they used inside the hydrant but I would be very concerned that it was not meant for drinking water for humans or animals. If you are purchasing this hydrant to water a garden you might wish to consider a different company.
