Wi-Spy 2.4x USB Spectrum Analyzer

My home requires six WiFi access points (AP)for full coverage and "four bar" indication virtually everywhere. To minimize interference among them, I allocate a different channel to each AP, but since there are only three channels available for high speed WiFi in the 2.4 GHz band, some APs would have to use the same channel. WiSpy is the ideal tool to observe, using a laptop PC, the activity at each location, including my own APs and neighbors equipment. It was easy to install and set and with all display options I could develop a feeling of the best channel for each AP, including interference from non WiFi equipment. Now I use it occasionally to troubleshoot coverage issues. For less than $100 it is a great spectrum analyzer.

I bought my wi-spy in 2005, the company offered their chanalyzer software which is pretty much required to use this device, for free on their website, with a pro version available for purchase. Now they no longer offer you that, and instead if you want to keep using this device, you now how to pay hundreds of dollars extra. This is horribly immoral of them, and is a direct insult to all those who originally bought their products, allowing their company to exist today. No loyalty to their customers.All the good reviews are years old from before this was an issue.

This Device it's very pratical. Easy to use and rate cost/benefit its obvious.Only four stars, because isn't nor compatible with airmagnet.

Excellent Hardware for location of interference and problems on the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band.

This unit is for 2.4 MHZ only! The desciption at the time said that it would detect 2.4,5.8 and 900 MHZ. I returned it.

Works well but not as fast as I expected (real time updates are kinda slow, not sure if there is a way to make it faster). The bundled software is pretty good as well but not top notch.

I needed to monitor the 2.4 GHz WiFi spectrum at a sports venue for potential interference. This device did all that I expected, providing real-time spectrum views as well as several hours of history.

Setting up a WiFi network in the age of wireless everything without a spectrum analyzer is like playing darts blindfolded.This product works amazingly well. Metageek, the manufacture, has awesome support for their products. Software updates with improvements are almost monthly.For anyone needing to survey 802.11b/g this is the product for you. 802.11a & 802.11n is covered with different products so read the product descriptions before investing.
