Sad decline
This magazine has become what it used to mock, only poorer. A stripped down version of GQ. They have lost a loyal subscriber of over 15 years with this new format. A magazine that used to have a great variety of coverage for sports, music, and celebrity. Now just mindless photo spreads of overpriced crap that only the self indulgent will buy, articles of no interest, and models that, while beautiful, are virtually unknown. The product description above is of the magazine that Maxim used to be.

I am like a lot of the people writing reviews who used to love this magazine. I bought several subscriptions for this magazine because it used to be awesome, but now i might just actually cancel this stupid magazine. The last straw was when they had a dude on the cover last month. Maxim, you hurt me. You used to be great but those days are gone. This mag used to be about hot women, now you wont find but one woman in the whole stupid thing. Its sad really. but I will be canceling mu subscription soon. :(

that is before the old version got bad. received my first issue at beginning of May ...
nowhere near the magazine is used to be.... that is before the old version got bad. received my first issue at beginning of May and I confused it with junk mail at first. Maybe 20 pages total, all adds, and on flimsy paper. It's definitely NOT the large format heavy paper the like the re-release issue was. I rarely write reviews, but this sucked enough to make me log in just for this purpose.

I used to enjoy this magazine because of the humor
I used to enjoy this magazine because of the humor. Lots of funny articles, captions, and of course the caption contest itself. The snarky tone guaranteed several good laughs each month. Plus, there was at least one good content article. They are now two months into a new format and I don't like it. The humor is completely gone and instead we have a series of articles of varying interest. There are plenty of other places I can read a serious magazine, I don't need Maxim to be that source. Sorry to say I will not be continuing with this magazine after all these years.

Great Tips
One of the many things that I loved reading this magazine are the wondering tips it gives out. Anything from men's fashion, to life advice to different cool up-coming gadgets. Every month, I looked forward to reading this magazine from front cover to back.

This ship is sinking....
I have been a loyal subscriber to Maxim for about three years now, and I am sad to say that I am not going to renew it this time around. Maxim used to be an irreverent, smart and caustic publication that never took itself (or anything) too seriously. It has become the very magazine it used to make fun of: full of ads, full of aftershave and $200 Prada running shoes reviews. What most bothers me these days is the humor; most jokes revolve around bashing Canada and are utterly predictable. Gone are the days of great sarcastic, iconoclastic commentary, in its place is the omnipresent... Canada bashing. Vary it up a little guys! The women are usually pretty and/or famous, but I agree with other reviewers: there is WAY too much Photoshop going on. As a result, most of the girls look the same: like plastic dolls. So what is good about Maxim? There are still some solid articles or perspectives that you won't find anywhere else (The Kursk and Saddam Hussein articles come to mind), funny interviews, albeit with too many softball questions asked by an interviewer who thinks he's funny. I'm interested in what Ray Liotta has to say, not the writer's [manhood]. It is still a good bargain at their current subscription rate, but you'd do just as well going to their website, which is still free.

A time killer
In the late 90's and early 2000's I discovered the collection of magazines known as FHM (For Him Magazine), STUFF, and Maxim while serving in the military. During that time most mens publications have shut down or scaled back to publication overseas. The lone survivor is Maxim.Maxim is not a serious magazine. It touches upon important topics such as eating healthy and exercises in a humorous manner. Sometimes it is straight faced the information being disseminated to the reader. Other times it is a tongue-in-cheek approach to the topic. Many times the humor can be ranked as toilet humor but it is entertaining none the less. I would put it on the level as watching a "Harold and Kumar" movie.... oh, and yes, there is eye candy. Each month features a lovely lady that is soft on the eyes to look at and admire.Over the years, though, the quality of the magazine has gone downhill but most publications have. With the difficult market for physical media, the number of ads have increased to an almost unbearable amount. It feels like I am attempting to watch a movie on television like the FX Channel where you see 4 minutes of movie followed by 3 minutes of commercial. Also, there are less women featured prominently throughout the magazine as days gone by.The yearly subscription is worth it if you jump on deals that are $8.95 or less a year. You have digital formats available but all have to be purchased separately than the physical form. Also, I recommend saving a few bucks by going onto eBay and buying this magazine in complete lots. You can usually get a full year under $10 or several years worth in one shot.

A new staple in men's magazines
I have been reading Maxim for years now. It's without a doubt the new Playboy. With it's on the edge humor, sexy pics and great new product reviews, it's a must have for guys.Every month they bring incredible women to eht brink of nudity. Maxim has the ability to make an actress nude in print the way Barbra Walters can make them cry on TV.The only downside I see to Maxim is that it's not as great as it once was. They have strayed from the "every guy is cool" approach to a more fashion aware style. But overall, a man needs Beer,The Man Show, Drew Carey and Maxim!
