First Thousand Words in Japanese

Great for beginners
I bought this to increase my vocabulary while learning Japanese. Although aimed at children it's very good for my beginner level. Covers a lot of everyday objects and activities. I previously bought the DK "visual" dictionary for this purpose, but everything was in Kanji and I had no idea what anything was. This is all in kana and easy to read as a beginner. Does not have romanji pronunciation though if you are not familiar with kana. Occasionally though the kana overly the image they represent, making it a bit unclear to read.

Excellent book for the intermediate learner.
The book assumes that you already have a clear understanding of Hilagana and Katakana, and there is no Romaji. This was an excellent book for me as I already have my Kana down pretty well, but this is not ideal for the absolute beginner. Unless you thoroughly know your Hilagana and Katakana, this will be a struggle for you.I have removed one star because this book did not come woth an audio CD, and whilst I can still read the words in this book I don't know thier actual pitch. Also, the packaging was pretty poor and the book arrived bent. Be mindful when buying books from Amazon or from other companies through amazon.

Great book
As I'm starting to learn Japanese I found this book very useful for labelling everyday items and it also includes animals, colours, numbers and shapes which was an added bonus for me. This product is also very cute but can be confusing what the picture is showing sometimes but can be cleared up with a quick dictionary search.
