I used a wipe to clean very well. Once dried, used a drop of moisture in the center of the cup. Temperature changes can also cause a fall. This suction cup is much better than the adhesive one.

If mounted to the windshield with pivot on top, will the arm and camera clear the back of the mount to provide an unobstructed road view? Thanks!

I do not think so. The device is designed to hang below the suction cup an pivot. If you were to place the camera up on top, you would need to place it at the bottom of the windshield and hope that the camera was able to lean far enough forward against the windshield to see the road. Which I find doubtful. It works perfectly when hung from the top of the windshield or near the rear view mirror - with the camera hanging at the bottom.

Has anyone tried this with a G1W type dashcam?

actually it fits perfectly fine only exception is the end doesnt click into place my only solution is to place a piece of typing paper exactly the same size as the camera mount area. push in mount over camera paper area slide it on and bingo. Trim away
