Pippi Longstocking (Puffin Modern Classics)

I bought this for my nearly 6yr old for Christmas as some of my European friends introduced it to me years ago. We’ve just finished reading it to her. She loved that it has colour pictures that “look like Charlie and Lola” and found Pippi really funny. I had to change a few of the words as I read it to make it more understandable for a British child born in 2015, but on the whole it has barely dated since the 1930s!

We love Pippi! Just a shame that the english versions don't have the pretty designs like the original ones or there german versions

I read this book as a little girl and remember laughing along with Pippi as she had her adventures and showed that you can have huge strength both physically and of character no matter who you are. I think she's a great role model for kids, she might be a little mischievous at times but she has a kind heart and is a loyal friend.

I’m not sure who loves this book more, my 5 year old daughter or her mummy! It’s become a favourite bed time story and really captures the imagination. My daughter is now drawing pictures of Pippi at every opportunity

I have always loved this story from being a child and wanted to buy it for my 7 yr old daughter for Christmas. It really is a beautiful book, the update that Lauren Childs illustrations have given it is genius. It is visually stunning, charming and funny, and the story remains as relevant and enchanting as ever. I will be reading it to my younger daughter too, who will instantly recognise the Charlie and Lola styling of the book.Every child should read this or have it read to them, I had to wrap it immediatly to prevent me from putting on the kettle and settling down with it!
