The Tyranny Must End!
The cinematic tyranny of the simple, positive dude who stumbles into greatness must end! To Chauncey, Rudy, Forrest AND his buddy Bubba...I say, "no more!" I banish thee from my screen! Take ye brand of phony feel-goodery elsewhere, thankyouverymuch! (Yeah, yeah....true story....STILL!)You know what I spent this whole movie thinking? "PFFT! I'd never be able to get away with that!" Plus, he's rude! Watch it again. He totally is! Negative consequences for being terrible with money!? NONE! I desperately need this magic! If I leaned on people as much as homeboy, I'd be typing here dead. My tombstone would read: "Maligned to death for being a Welfare Queen and Benefits Scrounger!"So, fellow contrarian curmudgeons, take my advice and pass! Unless, of course, you're in the mood for some incredulous tsk'ing. (Which, among our kind, is entirely possible.)(It's a super flick for people who are biologically able to see the bright side of life and the good in people.)

Based on the Life of a Living Man, Brings Smiles
The movie's name says it all--about a man whose always moving forward, accentuates the positive so, charms by his complete lack of cynicism and disbelief that he can't have what he aspires to, including friends wherever he goes. His simple and genuine pursuit of what he states he wants consistently rewards him with happiness -- his main purpose in life. The real living person makes brief appearances throughout the movie, bringing heartfelt moments.

Reminiscent Of Being There
Reminds me of the character in, "Being There," except it's true. Funny and poignant. Nello will touch your heart with his simplicity and sweetness."

Many FEELS!
I loved the reality of the man against movie portayal of the man in this movie. Toby Jones and Neil Baldwin having honest chats. A beautiful movie that made me laugh and then cry and then laugh again. I absolutely loved it. Pay no never mind that football is a part of the movie. I HATE football - I LOVED this movie.

Inspirational
Words cannot express how moving and inspiring this true life story is. The movie was written in such a meaningful way, for example there were many shots with the real Neil Baldwin doing "life" and also having conversations with the actor playing Neil, who asks him the questions we all want too and of course he gets an honest answer. The music in this film is SO inspired it makes one really want to get off their bum and live life!"Enjoy yourself, it's later then you thinkEnjoy yourself, while you're still in the pinkThe years go by, as quickly as a winkEnjoy yourself, enjoy yourself, it's later then you think "And lets not forget about faith. The movie shows Neil had it in spades and that God was no respecter of "religion".This movie is about LOVE of oneself, LOVE, of others, and LOVE of God!

This is the amazing story of Neil Baldwin told in an odd wonderfully quirky way. Toby Jones as Neil is his usual brilliant self. Gemma Jones as Neil's mother gave the character warmth and depth that was truly worthy of the BAFTA she received. I wish this could somehow find its way to the US. I think everyone everywhere would root for a person like Neil.

What a heartening tale
Such a wonderful tale of love and success. Neil's handicap s really his strength. Everyone became his friend and rooted for him.

Brilliant film
I've zero interest in football, I've never heard of Neil Baldwin and I didn't approach this film with particularly high expectations. However, this film is utterly brilliant and it's heart-warming story has plenty of moments that'll make you laugh and others that'll make you cry. I was going to write a longer review but I think to say any more would perhaps give too much away - suffice to say although this is a BBC TV production I would've happily have seen this at the cinema. There's something in this film for everybody and it doesn't tie itself down to any particular genre; I absolutely recommend this film to anyone who needs cheering up!

It is Marvellous
Toby Jones gives one of his greatest performances not as a particularly accurate impression of Neil Baldwin but allowing us to live with Neil in a way that shows the disarming impact that Neil has on others.Gemma Jones, as Neil's mum, is also outstanding and her undying love coupled with her exasperation for her son is so beautifully portrayed and her passing is heartbreaking.Don't forget, Gary Lineker is just club president...Neil is the boss and he draws the line at Port Vale! This is, quite simply, Marvellous.

Do your life a favour and watch it.
This is one of the best pieces of TV you'll ever see, based primarily on the actual life of Neil Baldwin, its 88 minutes that will make you see your life with a bigger smile. If it was a Hollywood release it would be up there for a good number of Oscar's including Best Film and Best Actor.Neil Baldwin may have been told that he had some form of learning difficulties but he doesn't choose to hear what society has to say to him. Neil Baldwin is of a clearer, saner mind, than many many people I have ever met. Society would tell him that he has boundaries that he must stay with in these, boundaries that he mustn't challenge, but he see's nothing but positiveness in everything. And to quote Mr Baldwin (Nello) "I've always wanted to be happy, so I decided to be"When Nello asks Lou Macari who his best ever signing is..? Watch the film a little further and get the tissues out for when Macari gives him the answer. You can't give this film more than 5 stars, but you'll want too, its utterly BRILLIANT.... Utterly 'Marvellous'!!!!!!!You'll laugh out loud, you'll cry, you'll see life the only way it should be looked at, and that's the best gift we will ever get..!!!Do your life a favour and watch it.

Deserves its high ratings
As already said by previous reviewers - gentle and funny and since it's from real-life - amazing really.I bought on strength of reviews - Toby Jones a revelation and so I bought INFAMOUS in which he also starred- another riveting performance and another good film.NB I join in 'reviewing' because I myself value the chance to see what others think - good or bad - and weigh up the odds!

the name say's it all
this one one of those films that have a feel good factor along with a tear in the eye moment nicely acted by toby jones and a good supporting cast i personally really enjoyed the ukelele and choir whenever they burst into song pity i can't get a cd like this the combination worked nicely the appearance of a few well known celebrities is testament to the regard the real life neil baldwin is held in the man who's story this is part biopic part musical part fantasy the real neil also pops up from time to time which only adds to the delight in watching this moving story this film is up there with the likes of shawshank redemtion sadly not as well known as it should be not a big budget block buster with superstars in the roles but i feel it gives many such films something to aspire to in short a 10/10 film without the fanfare others films get even worth watching again at a later date as i have
