KA-BARSnody Big Boss

Amazing knife. Doesn't have a sharps spine for a Ferro rod but it wasn't designed for that. Incredibly sharp and holds it's edge very well. The handle material isn't the best but is good enough for the cost of the knife. I was not able to get the screws out to swap the scales, almost stripped the screws. Also the handles shift with lots of force, but it hasn't caused any issues. Did not come with any paracord but at this price it's a good deal. Sheath takes some time to mold, it doesn't hold the knife very well but with some alterations it holds well enough. Overall great knife, very sharp.

1. Beautiful blade. Perfect for EDC.2. The handle scales are tiny thin slippery plastic pieces with no forward bump (sorry there probably is a technical term for that) to act as a guard. Obviously no metal guard.3. Therefore the knife is unusable as is. KABAR normally has pretty good handles.4. The leather sheath has no belt clip/attachment. No paracord was in the box. I ordered a kydex sheath from 7rattlesbushcraft.5. I guess I'll try to make my own handle scales. Certainly I can't do worse. This knife is basically a do-it-yourself kit with no instructions and missing parts.

This knife is made in the USA of S35VN steel, which is a higher-end steel that is known to hold an edge very well, but also be somewhat difficult to sharpen. The blade is advertised as 4.563 inches long. If you can find an S35VN blade over four inches made in the U.S. for less money, you had better buy it! However, you won't find it. This is the best deal on the planet right now. People will be kicking themselves one day for not getting this knife and having to pay over $200.00 for anything comparable. Don't like the handle? Get some paracord, watch a video on Youtube, and wrap the thing yourself. Sheesh.

"Bigger brother/ bigger chopper". Similar comments I made to its little brother Mike Snody 'Boss' I reviewed earlier. It's Ka-Bar's factory version of Mike's design and with that it loses a little luster but being a Ka-bar its still a great worker blade. Again like its little brother, its S35VN make it a long term outdoor worker blade that won't gag on any chore you throw at it. Like its counterpart too however, the handle scales leave a lot to be desired. I'll make or buy a set of after-market handles at a later point in time however so no worries for now. If like me you're an admirer of Mike Snody as crazy a dude as he is, get his Big Boss. It's a life-time blade!

For about $100, this knife is as close to perfect as a factory can get. I couldn't use it, however, until I fitted and shaped a guard to an inch at the edge and 3/8" at the spine. The leather "sheath" is quality, but requires some modifications. The handles and widget are entertaining to look at. If you're willing to spend the time milling and fitting a guard, then modifying the sheath to fit you can't do better than this tough, sharp and wear resistant steel. I'm guessing the heat treat was done by a master.
