I had to get one for a gift for a man that loves to burn himself. I have no idea how you'd accurately get the distance right without the dual laser feature.The focal distance on this sensor is a bit annoying, you can't see the display if you're reading something in your other hand, but obviously with a 1000c max temp you don't want the focal distance to be very close. I assume this is also an ideal distance for quickly auditing temps in coolers/freezers.Shipping was fast and once I found the refractivity table in the included manual I was finding the temp readings to be very precise and accurate.

It is not accurate on high temperatures above 150C. The higher the temperature, the higher is the errors in reading temperature. When temperature is 190C the reading from the gun is 248c with over 50c error.However, if the temperature between 22-100 degrees, the unit is accurate. We did not tested for subzero temperatures.

I use this for checking temperature of my fry pan when searing meat. I want the fry pan hot but I also want the temperature under the smoke point of my oil (475 Fahrenheit). This thermometer works perfectly for this and allows me to sear my steaks at Maximum temp without smoking the oil.
