Dr. MartensUnisex Ankle Classic Boots

Been wearing various kinds of boots since my teens, decades ago. This is my first pair of Docs in 20 years.Looks: Outstanding. These are boots you can wear to a formal function, or a mosh pit.Durability: Absolute beasts. Thicker grain leather than many competitors. Can take a real beating.Comfort: This is the thing I'd forgotten. Docs have to be tamed. They do not break in quickly or easily. I have been breaking these in for a month - this week I can finally wear them every day with minimal discomfort. (Still not about to run a 5K in them yet.) My prior two pairs of Docs were similar. I know that, with a little more time, they will be perfectly comfortable for long hikes, running, etc. Not quite there yet.If you buy these, there are many - MANY - articles and videos online giving tips on how to break them in. So far, my regular method for all leather boots is working fine.- Once every 3 days, absolutely drench the uppers inside and out in mink oil. Then blast each boot for 15 minutes with a hot hair dryer.- Lace them tight, wear them every other day for as long as you can stand, for the first 2 weeks.- Wear them with thick socks 2 days in a row, one day off, for the next 2 weeks.

I love these boots. They are so cute I get tons of compliments. But man the break in process was rough. It has taken months for me to get them semi comfortable. They are super super stiff. Do not buy these without getting the Doc Martin's wonder balm. I highly recommend watching YouTube videos and TikTok tutorials about how to break these babies in. Just prepare yourself. IT'S ROUGH. I would not recommend buying these if you plan on needing them for an outfit right away. I will say that they are extremely well constructed and I know that they will last me for decades with proper care. Not recommended for those with wide feet or big calves. I have big calves and the tongue of the Boot doesn't even reach both sides when I lace these all the way up. My sock sticks out on either side and looks kind of stupid. With my big calves I kind of wish I just would've went with the 8 hole Docs. I am hoping that over time I can stretch the tongue a little bit wider or just the ankle of the boot will stretch a little bit more. For the time being I wear them with black socks so that you can't see the laces stretching across my sock on either side.

They require some breaking in but they look great and true to size.

As a man of almost 40 years, I wish I had discovered Docs long ago, but I’m making up for it by wearing my 10-eyelet Jadons with my work outfit and often with other cloths, including shorts, when out-and-about because I love the look and feel so much.The break-in was long and painful, but after several months and dozens of miles, they finally feel like a pair of (chunky) gloves for my feet.It’s fun wearing such chunky platforms with such tall, supportive smooth leather. I love how I feel every step of the thick and heavy sole making firm contact with the ground, and the rugged grasp of the leather around my foot and leg.I also just like the more traditional, plain look of these boots with them being just one color all over and no fancy designs like with sneakers.As for sizing, I usually wear a men’s 9, but that’s too small for Jadons. The Jadons I wear are a men’s 10 and they’re a tad too roomy, but it’s nothing annoying and sure beats my feet being squeezed by a size 9. If only they made half sizes, as I’m sure a 9.5 would fit perfectly.Breaking them in can be a long and painful process. Wear thick socks and consider silicone heal protectors. Walk short distances and give your feet a break every other day by not wearing them. Eventually, you’ll be able to wear them every day, all day.

I love these boots, they’re lightweight, true to size and fit great! They look amazing in jeans or a dress. Great quality…as I’d expect from Docs!

Based on appearances and quality its great BUT the toe box/area above the bridge of the foot is awefuly tight. I have a high arch so I need to add inserts for support and it makes it even tighter. To the point where my circulation in my toes is impaired.I bought some shoe stretcher to see if that will help. The shoe laces are also too short given how tall the boot is. They are pretty heavy but I guess that is to be expected based on the quality material. I still have a pair of Docs I bought 26 years ago so I do like the brand.

For a while I was hesitant to get these boots. They’re quite expensive, and from other written reviews and videos, there was many warning about them being hard to break in. I haven’t actually tried wearing them outside, but for the little time I walked around in my home, they’ve felt amazing. I did size up in this shoe, and I’m glad that I did. Other than how they fit, they look amazing, just as pictured. If you’re hesitant on purchasing this shoe like I was, I would recommended you size up, but other than that I have experienced no other problems. Great product!
